Title: FIRE MISSION SB2845 Due before 3/14/24 @ 2pm
Post by: changemyoil66 on March 12, 2024, 02:56:42 PM
Hearing is on 3/15 at 2pm.

Testimony is due 24hrs before the hearing.

They added in that ALL ID's must be checked regardless of assumed age if you sell or transfer ammo. Which means if you let someone try your gun at the range, you have to check their ID, even though they're a kapuna.

How does this bill have any teeth at all if it's still kosher to sell or give ammunition to somebody who "Is actively engaged in hunting or target shooting or going to or from the place of hunting or target shooting"?

Like, if I give a 10-year-old ammo, couldn't I just say "they said they were going target shooting" and then the law doesn't apply?
Could a store sell a 10-year-old ammo if they said they were going target shooting?

This is another gun law designed to "trap" legal gun owners into unintentionally breaking it.  Notice the check ID requirement for ALL ages.

I am a hunter and a target shooter, and I take people target shooting with regularity. I've read this bill and do not understand how I'd be affected when I take guests to the shooting range.

It would be extremely bizarre, if not downright silly, to be required to check the ID of somebody before being legally allowed to give them ammunition and taking them target shooting, if I'd be with them the entire time anyways, or if I've known them for 20 years.

Further, how would this bill be enforceable if "they were going target shooting" is the only defense required after being accused of giving ammunition to somebody under 21 years of age?

What does it mean to be "actively engaged" in target shooting? If a 20-year-old has leftover ammunition in a box after target shooting, what then? Are they "actively engaged" if they go shooting every week, or month?

I fear this bill is of the ambiguous sort that could mean a lot or a little depending on interpretation.

Please write and pass clearer bills.
Thank you.

Also a good amount of female testimonies. Like 20% or more.

Anti 2a were a few organizations and like 4 individuals. So 95% opposed this bill.
