So, I just saw on TimCast IRL the prosecutor in the Stormy Daniels "Hush Money" trial against Trump is claiming that Trump interfered in the 2016 election.
Apparently, asking someone to voluntarily agree to not disclose an affair in exchange for $130K was "election interference", because he was trying to hide something that would be bad for his campaign.
I guarantee you every single Presidential candidate has had some skeleton in their closet hushed up so they could make it through the election without it making the news.
I seem to remember the FBI doing this -- sitting on the Hunter laptop for a year while the election was going on. They claimed it was to avoid "interfering" in the election, However we now are told hiding information that might be bad for a candidate is also interfering.
If that's election interference, I wonder how many times Bill and Hillary did the exact same thing -- or worse (Vince Foster). In fact, they had someone on Slick Willie's campaign they said was in charge of "Bimbo Eruptions" -- women they knew would come out of the woodwork looking for attention or to do Clinton's campaign harm.
Betsey Ross Wright (born July 4, 1943) is an American lobbyist, activist, and
political consultant who worked more than a decade for Bill Clinton in Arkansas.[1][2][3]
She served as chief of staff to Governor Clinton for seven years. As deputy chair
of the 1992 Clinton presidential campaign, Wright established the rapid response
system that was responsible for defending Clinton's record in Arkansas and
promptly answering all personal attacks on the candidate.[4] During the 1992
campaign, Wright coined the term "bimbo eruptions" to describe rumors alleging
extramarital affairs by Clinton.[2] In the 1990s, Wright was an executive for the Wexler
Group, a lobbying firm in Washington, D.C.[1]

Reading that article, it sounds like there was a WHOLE LOT of "election interfering" going on.
Maybe this is a good thing? From now on, anyone who has anything bad to say about a Presidential candidate can't be bribed, threatened, shamed or harassed into staying quiet. In fact, the candidate must admit to all extramarital affairs in writing (with photo and video evidence if available ), or else be guilty of keeping important information from the voters -- i.e. interfering in the election.

Smear tactics go back to biblical time and probably before that.

I still remember when the Hunter incident emerged. I was wondering why there was little or no media coverage of the incident.
I asked myself, "could it be.......?" but said nah, I'm just imagining things.
No. I wasn't imagining things. It was a hush-up until the retard gets elected.
Sad. Everything is just sad.
I'm almost to the point where I look at the 2024 election as the beginning of doom.
Almost.
-
Brandon waved around a letter signed by 50 experts that the Laptop was Russian information. He managed to get that done almost overnight!!

And that's where the "October surprise" was born. Last minute smear to influence voters to not vote for the opponent.
One could argue that all campaign ads that spread negative information is election interference particularly if untrue or exaggerated.

And they pretend they don't know why we distrust the FBI, DOJ, CDC, EPA, FDA, ATF, IRS and all the other 3-letter agencies that continually lie to the public.
If they ever once held the top positions accountable for these acts, maybe there would be less incentive to continue lying. As it is, they get away with murder, so no need to stop now.
I remember when the IRS had a rash of computer drive failures while under subpoena (Lois Learner and her replacement). Both lied about the drives failing AND that for some strange reason the backups didn't exist -- until about a year later the new IRS chief said, "No, we have the backups. We always had them."
Learner retired with full benefits and nothing happened to either of them.

It's funny because we had this discussion in detail in the removed Trump thread. Long story short, Trump's getting fucked again like usual.
Slick Willy's 5 sex assault accusers are still fighting for justice 20 years later. But falling of deaf ears. And it's not like this is politically motivated since he's not running for anything. They just want justice. Where did Justice Kav's accuser go since she's no longer needed?
The process is the punishment comes to mind. We think we live in a democracy, but as of 2016, it's obvious that we don't. The DOJ, media, etc...all have been weaponized. The only diff between the USA now and other communist countries is we don't generally execute the opposition. Instead, the US jails them or charges them for BS things.

He wasn't the opposition. He got caught and they weren't able to hide it. They were covering their asses.

He became the opposition once his loss of freedom made him a "security" risk.
Friend became foe.
You've seen Good Fellas, right? How many were dispatched simply because they might talk?
Actual or perceived, they were potential opponents if turned.

These days more people than ever are all like "this country is going to hell" but what's really happening is they are finally figuring out what country they have been living in all along.

There is no way Trump should be able to beat any of the charges.
The judge is asking the jurors to find him guilty on something that he hasn't had a trial of being guilty for.
Example: Trump lied about the money and commit tax fraud. Even though the IRS never charged him with this.
Then add in finding an impartial jury is impossible as the media has control of peoples minds or people already used logic to figure out this is a BS trial. Impossible because each side gets only so many veto's. So once those are all used up, too bad.
Then on top of the above, add in that each charge doesn't need the full jury to have a guilty vote for. So, 4 guilty for tax fraud, 4 guilty for election fraud, and 4 guilty for business fraud equals 12 guilty verdits. (these are made up examples). Instead of all 12 vote guilty for tax fraud or all 12 vote guilty for election fraud, etc...

It's already there. I doubt anyone who wasn't a fan prior is a fan now due to this specific trial.

Prison has become a right of passage for hopeless young left-behinds.
If Trump goes behind bars for even a day then he will have the kind of street cred that money can't buy.

Wouldn't that mean he can't be president? Which means he won't be able to help the nation. I'm pretty sure for local politics, you also cannot have a criminal record. So he won't even be able to help Florida or what ever state he lives in.

You can be a criminal. Just cannot have a criminal record. Just ask any politician hiding under the rocks at the state capitol on Beretania St.

Senator Ted Kennedy was unavailable for comment.
Kennedy was guilty of vehicular homicide. Later he ran in 1980 for the Democrat Party's presidential nomination.

No rule against having a convicted felon for president. It would be hilarious to see Secret Service set up shop inside Rikers. It's not a closed possibility by any means, at least until he pardons himself.

I don’t think he can pardon himself from a state conviction.

It's complicated.
There's nothing in the Constitution that prevents a sitting President from issuing himself a pardon against a federal charge/conviction. More likely, the subsequent president would be the one to issue the pardon, like when Ford pardoned Nixon.
As for state charges, almost all states have laws that prevent the state from pressing charges for the same crime either convicted or forgiven at the federal level -- i.e. double jeopardy protection.
That implies that the presidential pardon has to be issued for the federal crimes prior to the state convicting for the same crimes.

From the FAQ of the Department of Justice Office of the Pardon Attorney:
“Does the President have authority to grant clemency for a state conviction?
No. The President’s clemency power is conferred by Article II, Section 2, Clause 1 of the Constitution of the United States, which provides: “The President . . . shall have Power to grant Reprieves and Pardons for Offenses against the United States, except in Cases of Impeachment.” Thus, the President’s authority to grant clemency is limited to federal offenses and offenses prosecuted by the United States Attorney for the District of Columbia in the name of the United States in the D.C. Superior Court. An offense that violates a state law is not an offense against the United States.”

Coincides with what I posted.
For the Presidential Pardon to shield someone from state offenses, the feds would need to charge the person and a Presidential pardon issued for that.
Double jeopardy would then offer an "indirect pardon" for the same state offense depending on the state's laws. Some states will allow charging an offender if the federal charges don't lead to a conviction.
