IDK what kind of dogs the SS use, but if they're the same as the dogs that casino's in Vegas use, then they're smelling for explosives. They def cannot smell a handgun with 20rds of ammo.
I've seen a dog at Venetian go up to a backpack that was left next to a trash can outside the lobby. Dog sniffed it and no alert. So the handler took the bag, I'm assuming to lost n found.

A very cool story. A cop next to the dog tried to pet it and got scolding's from the handler. I mean, moron.
