Title: Unguided Lanai/Molokai Axis Deer
Post by: jake_eizy on August 26, 2024, 12:44:14 PM
Any one know of any private land owners who will provide unguided access to their land for axis deer on Lanai or Molokai? Just moved out here and looking to fill the freezer, hoping to not wait until the lottery for public hunt.

Thanks

I wouldnt waste your time i went last summer saw 8 deer in 3 days it was so junk seemed like what  deer there was, was around town in the safety zones where it was greener. saw lots of ewes but rly no deer. nowhere close to the numbers before the bad drought they had couple years ago.

This is a really good free option on Maui if you are willing to hike away from the road a ways.

Was that on the public side?

I have hunted the Waiohuli property about six times. I saw deer every time, and usually killed a deer. Be prepared to hike well away from the roads.

It was the pulama rifle area but the whole island numbers is way down. I don't even bother doing the lanai state hunt anymore, just not worth the time or money before that hunted it every year for past 15 years

The waiohuli hunt was good at first in the spring I shot multiple deer first couple times but last couple times see way less deer. getting hunted pretty much every day seems the deer moved on to the adjacent private and much harder to find game

How much does the Pulama rifle area cost?

Great thank you for this info. It sounds like this is the better option over the Pualama.
