The more I see people say "Hawaii is special -- we do things different than the mainland," the more i get it.
Hawaii never participated in the Revolutionary War, adoption of the Declaration of Independence, ratification of the US Constitution and all amendments, the Civil War (at least not in an organized way), started homesteads across 3000 miles of wilderness, ushered in the age of automobiles, the industrial revolution, and so on.
The role firearms have played in our history is a vital one. Culture is developed over time, and Hawaii wasn't part of US history in its formative years. It's understandable how someone growing up in Tennessee or Wyoming would have a different attitude towards guns than someone raised here.
CA, NY and Chicago are a different problem. Their dense populations create an environment where government control is a higher priority than individual liberty.
Since the number one purpose of the 2A is to defend against a tyrannical government (foreign or domestic). It's hard to keep that flame lit when government controlled schools are teaching generations to trust in government.
