39 Pardons and 1500 commutes.

This was the largest single-day group of clemency grants by a president in modern US history.

One of these was a Chinese national who pleaded guilty to child abuse charges after he was found to possess over 47,000 images of child pron.  He was sentenced to 97 months (over 8 years) in prison, 5 years supervised release plus restitution $30,500 and an additional $100 special assessment.

Shanlin Jin has been incarcerated since his arrest 1/24/2021.  Mh math says he's served less than half the 8 year sentence.

There are some conditions, such as leaving  the US and never coming back, paying the balance of any monies owed for restitution, etc., and retaining the 5 year supervision requirement.

This is not a pardon, but a commutation of the sentence.  Basically he gets to go back to China but can be thrown back in prison if he violates any of the conditions based on his or any future president's discretion.

The only rationale given in the document is that releasing the admitted pedo somehow "appears that it is in the national interest."

He must be related to a Chinese Communist Party big wig.  The Sino-Hunter business circle.

Highly misleading.  That Chinese dude was traded to China for USA citizens. Prisoner exchange.

How is it "misleading"?  The post says "nations best interest". He is also related to people who have CCP connections.

So, you're saying the formal and official clemency order signed by Biden is "highly misleading?"  I'll buy that.  Shady bunch of weasels.

I just report the news. It's up to you to decide what to think.

Also, he's not some Chinese dude.  He's a pedo who admitted to sexually abusing children and who had over 47,000 images of this abuse -- his and others'.

is it your belief China traded an American prisoner for an admitted, convicted and sentenced pedo because they are running low on those in their country?  No other factors involved?  Hunter's business dealings in China maybe?  Party connections?  Client of Jeffrey Epstein's?  Freaking out with Diddy?  So many possibilities, but all we get from Biden is "national interest."

I can remember when something was said to be in the "national interest," it meant it was a good thing for the country at large or was preventing a bad thing -- arguably the same thing with a different perspective.  Now it seems the term has no meaning.  It's a boiler plate euphemism for "I do what I want, and you have to take it."

Quote
The Financial Times on Thursday reported the third Chinese released was
Jin Shanlin, a former doctoral student at Southern Methodist University in
northern Texas, who was sentenced in 2021 for possessing and distributing
child pornography, with his sentence set to end in 2027. Records from the
Federal Bureau of Prisons also show Jin’s status as "not in federal custody."

Jin's case has sparked controversy because of his crime and his family's
alleged ties to the Chinese Communist Party. The FBI testified that his family
had "important political connections," The Dallas Morning News reported in
2022, raising questions about why he was chosen for the exchange over other
Chinese nationals in U.S. custody.
