SHe asked him since he promised he won't drink to a few GOP members, if he does drink, will he resign.  I mean, say you seal a deal with X country and a drink is needed.

Hysterical -- adjectival form of Hysteria.
Quote
Hysteria is a term used to mean ungovernable emotional excess and
can refer to a temporary state of mind or emotion.[1]

In the nineteenth century, female hysteria was considered a diagnosable
physical illness in women. It is assumed that the basis for diagnosis operated
under the belief that women are predisposed to mental and behavioral
conditions; an interpretation of sex-related differences in stress responses.
Quote
The word hysteria originates from the Greek word for uterus, hystera. The
oldest record of hysteria dates back to 1900 BCE when Egyptians recorded
behavioral abnormalities in adult women on the Kahun Papyrus.[7] The
Egyptians attributed the behavioral disturbances to a wandering uterus –
thus the condition later being dubbed hysteria. To treat hysteria Egyptian
doctors prescribed various medications. For example, doctors put strong
smelling substances on the patients' vulvas to encourage the uterus to return
to its proper position. Another tactic was to smell or swallow unsavory herbs
to encourage the uterus to flee back to the lower part of the female's abdomen.[5]

The ancient Greeks accepted the ancient Egyptians' explanation for hysteria;
however, they included in their definition of hysteria the inability to bear children
or the unwillingness to marry.[8] Plato and Aristotle believed that hysteria, which
Plato also called female madness, was directly related to these women's lack
of sexual activity and described the uterus as those who suffered from it as
having a sad, bad, or melancholic uterus.[7] In the 5th century BCE Hippocrates
first used the term hysteria.[7] Ancient Romans also attributed hysteria to an
abnormality in the womb; however, discarded the traditional explanation of a
wandering uterus. Instead, the ancient Romans credited hysteria to a disease
of the womb or a disruption in reproduction (i.e., a miscarriage, menopause, etc.).
Hysteria theories from the ancient Egyptians, ancient Greeks, and ancient
Romans were the basis of the Western understanding of hysteria.

If Mazie and her other female colleagues are acting hysterical, it may be that the ancient Egyptians and Greeks got it right!

It might also explain Kamala's hysterical laughter.

Her questions are nothing but pure hypotheticals.

if i'm not mistaken, other nominees -- especially judges and Supreme Court justices -- refused to answer any hypotheticals due to the fact they are required to judge each case on the merits.  Any answers to hypotheticals may indicate a predisposition in a future case making it improper to respond to hypotheticals.

Pete was refusing to answer her hypotheticals, but instead of responding with "I will not answer hypotheticals," he took the opportunity to make comments he felt were important to get on the record.

He handled her obvious BS questioning well -- avoided the hypothetical while saying what he thought was needed.

Pochahantas asked something:

"Since you stated no retired general should work in the private sector for 10 years, will you do the same?"

It's not like he is spending 20 years in this position, compared to a general who worked their way thru the ranks.  At best, 4 years (trumps term) and he's probably done.  This would cause him at such a young age to not be able to work anywhere else and be called a liar by the fake news.  I'm glad his response was "I'm not a general" and everyone laughed.

if that's a direct quote, she's intentionally using "the private sector" as a gotcha.  Every job that's not government is in the private sector.

What Pete said was "...  implement a 10-year ban on generals working for defense contractors after retiring from the military."

He specifically said defense contractors, not the private sector.  He also said "10-year ban," so that the programs and contacts the generals cultivate on active duty would have had time to evolve or dissipate prior to the retirees being able to benefit from them in their new career.

Conflicts of interest do exist, and i would expect a SECDEF to abide by the same 10-year ban.  As a former SECDEF, I'm sure Fox will be glad to give him is old job back!!

I believe even though she said private sector, she meant to what you referred to.  Hegseth also said that he never thought about it and she was asking him for his "promise" now.

Since Trump will be in charge, I can see that if Hegseth doesn't do a good job, he gets fired.  Or like how Trump ran his businesses, people are brought in to fix 1 thing, then they resign after it's done.  See Gen Mattis story. So it would be unfare if Hegseth was in the job for 6 months and then resigned.  Plus add in that he's much younger and cannot retire as easily as say a general can who gets $1 million a year for life.

I find it hypocritical for the Dems in Congress to demand promises from GOP nominees for anything they might do years in the future.

When faced with an obvious conflict of interest over the money taken in by the Clinton Foundation from foreign entities -- governments and individuals -- Hillary promised as Secretary of State her foundation would not accept any foreign-sourced donations.

She broke that promise more than once while she was Secretary, but nothing was ever done about it.  The foundation admitted after they were called out to breaking the rules at least once -- not asking the ethics watchdogs permission before accepting $500K from a new donor.

BLUF: Hawaii voters are some dumb madafakaz!! :grrr:

https://www.mauinews.com/opinion/letters-to-the-editor/2020/10/hirono-disgraced-people-of-hawaii/

Sen. Mazie Hirono is an embarrassment! Ms. Hirono is a disgrace to the people of Hawaii!  Her action is not pono, nor is it in the spirit of aloha.  She has gone off the rails several times recently, and we need to call her on her disgraceful behavior!  Please take the time to do so!

Gerri Endean Kihei

https://www.mauinews.com/opinion/letters-to-the-editor/2019/02/hirono-an-embarrassment-to-the-state-of-hawaii/

I just finished watching the State of the Union speech and was totally embarrassed with the actions (and inactions) of our Sen. Mazie Hirono. Even when the rest of the Democratic representatives and senators stood and applauded the World War II veterans, the Holocaust survivor, the police officer that was shot multiple times chasing down the synagogue mass murderer and the 10-year-old cancer survivor, Mazie, clearly visible in her bright blue outfit, sat with her hands in her lap. In fact, the only time I saw her out of her seat was to quickly scurry out of the chamber at the last word of the speech.

No aloha!

Just a purely partisan embarrassment of a senator from Hawaii. Sad day for Hawaii.

i'm sorry, I couldn't watch the full 2 minutes of that to-the-max mental retardation (used as an expletive).  sorry, the "R" word, but for Mazie Hirono, it fits.  Although even true-life "mentally challenged" people are not that annoying or irritating.

too painful to watch, or listen to.  I guess for Pete Hegseth, he just had to endure her for the few minutes, just grin and bear it.  I feel sorry for people that have to deal with her.  Shame on Hawaii.

She's 77.
Quote
Born on November 3, 1947, in Fukushima Prefecture, Japan

Raised in Honolulu, Hirono became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 1959, the year Hawaii became a state.

She attended Kaʻahumanu Elementary and Koko Head Elementary Schools.

She graduated from Kaimuki High School, which had a predominantly Japanese
American student body at the time. Hirono then enrolled at the University of
Hawaii at Mānoa, graduating Phi Beta Kappa with a B.A. in psychology in 1970.[10]
She later attended Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, D.C.,
where she obtained her juris doctor degree in 1978. Hirono then returned to
Honolulu, where she practiced law.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mazie_Hirono

Most adults who knew her as she was growing up are probably dead or senile now.

Fun fact: Hirono has the distinction of being the only Democrat to run for Hawaii Governor and lose to a Republican.

Quote
Democrat Sen. Mazie Hirono of Hawaii faced mockery on social media on Thursday over her opening questions to Interior Secretary nominee Doug Burgum during his confirmation hearing.

"As part of my responsibilities to ensure the fitness of nominees before any of the committees on which I sit, I ask the following two initial questions," Hirono said to Burgum on Thursday. "First is, since you became a legal adult, have you ever made unwanted requests for sexual favors or committed any verbal or physical harassment or assault of a sexual nature?"

"No, senator, I have not," Burgum responded.

"Have you ever faced discipline or entered into a settlement related to this kind of conduct?" Hirono then asked.

"I have not," Burgum said.

Hirono, who has asked similar opening questions to several other nominees in the past, including Secretary of Defense nominee Pete Hegseth and Attorney General nominee Pam Bondi, was widely panned by conservatives on social media over the line of questioning.
