Title: Steel Targets at Kokohead???
Post by: Hunter1007 on January 06, 2013, 07:03:45 AM
Hey guys I was wondering, what is the range rules on bringing your own steel targets? I see people bringing their own but not sure if they gotta be commercially made. Please let me know. :shaka:

Sometimes other people shoot your Target for you. People seem to like them but don't bring their own.  Last time I went the guy next to me set up a steel Target and you could hear it ringing constantly even when he wasn't firing.

Other neighbors get mad too sometimes cause the shrapnel fucks up their frames and puts holes in it.

If you don't got a plate yet I got one for sale.

Is it AR500 steel? Sorry just asking....

As long as its ar500 your good at 100 yds. You can have .22 swings at 50.  I have 3 ar500 plates on a wood target frame I made and have never been hassled by an RO.

They're punk azzs. You should shoot out their target frames. I had two people once shoot at my target (a reduced sized bullseye for highpower) to zero their rifle. I was wondering how these holes appeared without me shooting >:(

yep. nothing wrong with it. I got there and waited like everyone else. I fire one shot every half hour to let my barrel cool between shots. I did not violate any rules at the range. You got a problem with that? Bring up to Mike.

I've used 3/8 and 1/2 steel plates for the.22 at 50 yds with no problems. At 100 yds I've used 1/2 inch steel plates and with an ar 15 those plates got worked. Rounds went right thru the plates like nothing. Even Mike the range officer had a good laugh at those. Supposedly you can use 3/8 inch ar500 steel plates for 100 yds. Will see when I get those in

5.56 leaves no dents or impressions on 3/8" ar500 at 100 yards.

I was shooting a 22lr spinner target at 50 yards and someone shot it with a 7.62x39.

It cut through the mild steel like a hot knife through a warm stick of butter.

I knew the guy who did it too.

He laughed and then apologized.

that's pretty fken dick.  I would be pissed if i brought steel targets and people started shooting them.  Especially if i was in KK's shoes where it was only a rimfire rated target and some asshole destroys it with 7.62x39 rounds.  People like that should be banned from any and all shooting ranges.

No, I wish.

It was amazing how the AK round literally burned a hole clear through the spinner.

Eye opener.

Kk was that your friend that shot it?

As far as steel targets, I'm not sure if people are doing it on purpose or not, but even regular frames get shot by the wrong people. Someone else posted that all the benches are not aligned with the frame holes. And sometimes someone's frame at 50yrds is directly in line with someone's frame at 100yrds.  Hard to explain, maybe someone else could do a better job. Regardless though, I'm sure you know if you put a steel gong out or not.

Be sure of your target and what is beyond....  Even if you set up your target off line you shouldn't be confused about which one to shoot at.  It is only 100yrds Jeeezz. :P

There are some tacticool Ainokea shooters that show up and think that anything on the range is fair game. Remember the boy that shot and killed the long-necked white bird? After that they just dug out. RO said it was a $3k fine. I had some arse zero on my target a few times becuase they couldn't see where there shots landed on their target.

I'd use eBay, many sellers ship free or very cheap, after all its not like they can get damaged.

I always wondered if anyone ever shot a bird either accidentally or intentionally. They fly/walk around right in the line of fire. One time I did notice two large holes in my cardboard that none of my rifles could've made but I don't think they were intentional since none were close to my targets. Still odd how anyone could be so far off.

I wouldn't waste bullets on trash like them. But I would throw brass, rocks, slippaz, etc.

Those MGM targets look nice but I think he just wants the large plates to hang off a frame and chain to shoot at.

If I remember correctly, those orange spinners are rated for .22 so larger calibers will probably destroy it.

A friend of mine just picked up some AR500 round plates on ebay for a great deal.  They even had two loops on them to hang on your target frame.

Yes with the straps so it doesn't shift side to side. Chain would be a problem.

On second thought, would they object to the human shaped steel target? When people show up with human shaped paper targets, a piece of tape can be used at the neck so it's no longer human shaped. Don't think this would work with the steel target.
