Title: 5.45, 5.56, 7.62 or 308 - Which has best penetration?

I picked 308....I was wrong.  Saw this on youtube @ Military Arms Channel.

My prediction before watching is 7.62x39, rivaled with 5.45x39 (I'm assuming you meant 7.62x39, as 7.62 NATO is almost the same as .308).

Maybe the tree puckered up?
Lots of variables in that experiment.

My theory is the small diameter of the bullet helped it through.

As for the 7.62x39 penetrating when the .308 didn't, I feel he shot awful close to where the 5.45x39 hit, and it was assisted by the permanent wound cavity left by the 5.45x39.

I hold no claim to being anything other than an "internet couch expert."  ;D

Just had to add...

Maybe if he had a heavier bullet of 5.56?  The 5.45x39 is .09" smaller in diameter than the 5.56, but was 4gr heavier, so it had much more weight for it's diameter.

I like this guy's videos, but this is the least informative "experiment" I've seen.   ::)
