"Shiroma was convicted of misdemeanor assault 33 years ago. It was not for domestic violence. He was denied for a permit to acquire a firearm based on the conviction. He has no other disqualifying history. State law allows for the ownership of firearms 20 years after conviction for a crime of violence so my clients denial is based on a county policy. We are suing because the denial violates our client's Second and Fourteenth Amendment rights. "
Attorneys Alan Beck and Kevin O'Grady are representing him.

Update:
Hawaii lost again. Shiroma can buy firearms.
