He was allowed to work in MA as a reserve police officer based on MA laws, but the man over stayed his visa.
He then tried to buy a firearm which flagged him to ICE.
Reserve officers are not issues firearms, nor are they allowed to carry their own,
yet he was apparently trying to buy the gun for work.
He's from Jamaica, mahn!

My question is, if it was legal for them to hire a person in the US from Jamaica on a work visa, who in HR dropped the ball by not keeping track of when his visa expired? They knew who he was, but everything was okey dokey when he was hired. How hard could it be to call him in and ask for his visa renewal documents?
Aren't these the same people who issue tickets for expired vehicle registrations, expired auto insurance coverage, and expired driver's licenses?

Luckily, he was a reserve officer. Which means he doesn't really do much compared to full time officers. What if this happened to a detective. Now all cases they were involved with may come to question, esp the ones after a VISA expired.

I couldn't find this info specifically for Old Orchard Beach PD, but since the Reserve Police Officer program is governed by the state, it's probably close.

BTW, the seasonal jobs, like the one in the OP story, are mostly people from out of state. I've read the illegal alien in question lived in Maine before applying to the Old Orchard Beach department.
My impression is they are more like peace officers. They patrol, observe, identify crimes in progress, help apprehend criminals, enforce drinking laws and public intoxication ordinances, and so on. They actually patrol on bicycles for the most part. Anything a full-duty officer needs assistance with, the reservists can help do.
In 2022, they got $17/hour to start training, then a bump to $22/hour when they took their oath. After 3 years, those numbers may be different now.
