Does anyone else question how anyone in a security role for a political event can overlook the obvious threat an elevated position 150 yds or closer to the stage represents? First Trump gets shot from a man on a roof without anyone responsible for security warning to get Trump under cover. Now we have someone on a rooftop again with nobody responsible for securing that building.
Is there nobody actually responsible for security at these events? Seems like they just show up to get free admission and refreshments -- maybe a hat or T-shirt.
C'mon! It's not like there are no examples to guide the planners.

it's because only important political figures would get this protection. Maybe things will change now for all. But it would have to be scheduled as the workers need time to prep. So if someone just walks onto a campus to interview people that doesn't require a permit, then it's difficult to drop what you're doing and shut down all roofs in proximity.
Kirk has multiple security and none were scanning rooftops it appears. So even these types of security will begin doing the same. Prob 1 guy dedicated with binoculars will be the new SOP.

What I like know is why people don't say anything nowadays when they see something strange. It seems like there is an "ainokea" attitude all over the world.
But they quick to whip out the iPhones to record and then jump on the bandwagon when something bad happens.
Watching all the videos on the internet cashing in on this horrible event is sad and depressing.
This clown doesn't even show sensitivity to Charlie Kirk's death while immediately diving into his gun channel content. A supposedly Christian I believe.

There will be going forward, that's for sure. But it is one of those things where no one probably thought of it because when was the last time someone was assassinated for a public talk like that?
Unless you are super rich or a major politician you just aren't going to get the resources necessary to secure a large open space like that.
I have noticed that people like Kirk and Crowder had visible security details with them but these guys are close in security, I would be surprised if they had the amount of people to properly secure everything within 200 yards, it would become exceedingly expensive to speak publicly if they set up perimeters that large. I would expect a lot more of these people to move to indoor locations which is going to limit shooter vantage points.

It comes down to how much money they want to spend and accessibility. I see he has a security detail on his videos as they tell the speakers to take their hands out of their pockets and to put objects down to prevent handgun shootings or acid attacks etc. Protection against rifles is difficult as large areas have to be covered, 300 yard radius for most attacks or 600 yards if they really want to take him out. The drone idea is good as it can serve as a deterrence and is relatively cheap. But many places ban drones. You could put up bullet proof glass, have the event indoors, metal detectors, etc but now the event isn't as accessible and more expensive.
If the threat level is high, then you need more all encompasing security to check for bombs, 24 hour security, security assessments, specialists, etc and the cost is really expensive.
