I have a serious ant problem. Moved to Waimalu/Pearl city area. I clean, I wipe, I spray. I have two more options. Gonna try Atticus Talak and then if that doesn't work calling pest control. Getting tired of shooting them with the salt gun.
Does anyone have a cheaper solution before I go down that road of expensive pest control?

you have to leave a lot over a long period of time
they bring it back to feed to babies and queen and it kills the colony over time...

+1 on Terro
I've also found that if you go outside and follow the trail of ants to the "nest" and pour about 5gallons of water over the nest it wipes it out.
If all else fails, I HIGHLY recommend Oshiro Pest Services

Borax works best. It's also very good for eliminating a flea infestation.
For ants, look for wherever they are marching in a line and place your remedy on that line, preferably near a corner/against a wall.
Pour ½ cup (100 g) of sugar and 1 ½ tablespoons (38 g) of borax into a jar,
then slowly stir in 1 ½ cups (350 mL) of warm water.[1] Mix until the sugar
and borax are completely dissolved and the mixture becomes a paste-like
consistency.[2] The water can be any temperature, but warm water helps
the sugar and borax dissolve better.
Alternatively, mix 3 parts sugar and one part borax together, then sprinkle
the powder across your doorway and window ledges. Carrillo says to “use
a duster to apply a thin layer,” or the ants will avoid it.[3]

My results have varied depending on the type of ant. In general, I like the DIY version. The ants carry the borax/sugar paste back to the farm where others will partake, killing more of them than only surface treating with poisons. I put out the treatment in the morning, the ants have a party circling the bait all day, and by dark they've left the scene. I put out fresh bait the next day, and most times I get no return guests -- a good indication the party is over for them!
Terro works better on smaller ants IMO. Regardless, the treatment must be placed very low so ants can access it. I use waxed paper from flyers I get in the mail and insidevnewspapers. Terro has a variety of distribution methods including a squeeze bottle where you can disperse it on cardboard, paper, tile, etc. The plastic housing versions might be better if you have pets.
I was doing very well for the last 2 years having no real invasions. That changed this weekend after the neighbor tented his house for termites. The very next day, there was a large army of ants in in the kitchen! I predict the next termite swarming period will see them divert to my place as well. :wtf:
If you search for borax roach killer, you'll see those products and DIY instructions overlap with ant killer. One solution for both pests.

Flame thrower.
But seriouslly, Terro. My friend worked pesticide for 40 years and told me that's the best of all the options available for over the counter.
-
If you want to go the chemical route you can buy Bifenthrin off of Amazon and spray the perimeter of your house.

The best method that I've found is using Fipronil or one of it's generic or licensed variants. Spray a stream of the chemical on the perimeter of your home where the wall meets the foundation and around all piers if your house is elevated. The ants will be gone in 1 day. A friend of mine that used to be a manager of a pest control company told me about it. It works great. The ants don't reappear for at least 6 months.

Thanks for that.... I was looking at this stuff on Amazon. Im going to try this. I ordered it already

Most treatment specialists use Advion. You can buy a 4 canister pack for about $30-40 on Amazon; just make sure its from a reputable seller and to read the reviews as there are a lot of fakes or people selling old stock. Youʻll notice a reduction in activity for most ants within 1 week and they will disappear in about 2-3 weeks.
If you have carpenter or pharoah ants or ants resistant to advion, pick up Maxforce Fleet
If you want to go the spray/treatment prevention route, buy a product called Taurus, which is a cheaper version of termidor and also what a lot of treatment specialists utilize when they overcharge you. Both are primarily utilized to treat termites but are effective against a large number of insect species, to include ants, roaches and centipedes. Make sure to follow the application instructions and only utilize outdoors.
If you want the "safer route", boric acid and sugar/honey if ants are in their sugar phase, boric acid blended with boiled or canned chicken if they are in their protein phase. Donʻt waste your time with borax as what youʻre after in borax is the sodium tetraborate, which a salt form of boric acid and significantly weaker and less effective than boric acid. If you canʻt find or donʻt want to buy it online, you can usually find boric acid at Ace Hardware as a roach and ant killer; just read the ingredients list to ensure that its 99% boric acid.
If you go the boric acid + sugar route, always dissolve both in hot water. If making the protein mix, you can blend or smash until well integrated as best as possible.

10-4 I ordered something like that thermidor from amazon... I made the paste yesterday with sugar and borax water. I found one of the nests I think there is multiple, ants are coming from different directions. DUMPED hot water down the nest.

Stop pouring hot water down the nest as water doesnʻt usually reach the chamber the queen is in and may cause them to migrate into a worse location.
Redo the borax mixture by dissolving in hot water. Put the solution into a shallow container that they can readily access or soak cotton balls if in a covered area not exposed to a lot of wind or sunlight that will cause the balls to dry out.
If you have a termidor or taurus (fipronil), you can increase the effectiveness by baiting the ants out with food and lightly mist them directly; dont soak them. The ants will migrate back to and throughout the colony and spread the fipronil to the other ants, including and especially the queen.

Identify the ant type as that helps. I had a problem with small red ants but they wouldn't go for poison like Terro which is sweet. I got a different poison which had a savory flavor and that worked. Depends where there nest is, whether you have pets, etc.

I just started running advion roach gel.
Now I got teeny tiny ants. Sigh....no can win.

I used to have termites. The ants moved in, no more termites. I rather have ants.
