Title: Applying for a Permit to Aquire before purchasing the handgun
Post by: hyperstang00 on September 25, 2025, 02:04:09 PM
hey guys...

I just purchased a pistol it will be like a week before it leaves for the FFL here.  Am I able to apply for a permit to aquire prior to getting the pistol information from the FFL?  Just submit the paperwork like normal and I tell HPD that the gun is on the way or what do I say to them?

thanks
Planning on going down tomorrow morning :shaka:

From HPD website

“Permit to acquire application. You will need the Make, Model, Caliber, Type/Revolver/Semiautomatic etc, and Serial Number. (Handguns only)”

Just spoke with HPD to clarify.

You are able to apply for a blank permit to aquire.  After 2 weeks...its good for 30 days to purchase a handgun.  One permit per handgun.  After the 30 days....if you dont pickup anything.  It is VOID...gotta do um all ovah again.

yeah...its something HPD probably won't be putting on the website.  I heard of this through word of mouth at the range.  It sounded to me like the officer I spoke with was trying to discourage me from doing it this way.  He was really telling me to wait until the gun arrives on lsland with all the information on the pistol before applying for the permit to acquire.  I guess they don't want a bunch of blank permits out there floating around...lol!!!

I think I might just wait until it arrives here anyway.  Thinking of registering this one online...so I don't have to go down the HPD to many times..lol!!!
