Wow that many people shooting with ammo prices the way they are. Wish I could shoot my new rifles I got last month but there is no 5.56 on the island at a decent price.

Wow. I was there last Sat, at about noon, with about 60-70% of the benches taken.  That could've been the weather, though. It was super windy.

It's CHEAP when you only fire 1-2 rounds every hour.  ???

FYI: There are A LOT of bench hogs who treat the range as a social club and don't give a crap that others are waiting.

No joke! Those guys really take the mantra "One Shot, One Kill" to a whole new level. Well at least the first part. ;D

you mean when you go to the range, see three benches open at the end, and you're glad you came early, and then some guy walks out of the shadows and says "oh, my friends are coming.  sorry".

and then 2/3 of them never show up, and the original guy shoots 15 rounds and spend 50 minutes talking with his friends.

That royaly pisses me off every time I see it, which is usually every time I go.

Why not say that you'll move when your friend gets here? Or tell them no place holding

I was at the range today.... I was expecting it to be crazy so I got there about 5:15am... was SUPRISED to see most benches taken, I guess I planned it right... I got a decent bench 92 but atleast I was blasting away did take 2 breaks for water and a musubi.... but I do DisLIKE when "friends" take up 4 benches and usually only couple guys shooting at a time, I mean I respect the old timers, and their info, but they could have just used 2 benches that would have been used properly and given 2 to the people waiting... but hey early bird always gets the worm too! was a fun day wind was dead-to minimal...  :geekdanc:

Almost need parking meters to time people, like at the tennis courts.  Or something.  Another range would so rock too.
sigh.

Went to the silhouette range with a friend to test out his Sig 2022 that he recently got back from serving at Sig.  It looked like everything was all good until the trigger pin started walking.  Looks like the gun is going back to Sig.

Got to the range around 2 pm and got on the waiting list at the silhouette range.  Got a shooting station at around 2:30 pm.  By 3:00 pm, it was only about half full.

I was at the life training too.... Great class and lots of fun.... I recommend this class to everyone... Instructors were great and man did they bring a lot of handguns and ammo....

Great bunch of people both students and instructors!!!! Makes you realize that handguns are a lot different from rifles....

Those cowboy guns are actually fun to shoot.... Maybe better than the semi autos.....

LIFE class today was fun.  Nice to see that the wife is starting to get the bug.   She was a bit intimidated at first, but the instructors did an excellent job of encouraging her to just relax and shoot.  After failing in my attempts to teach her golf and how to lift weights properly, I learned my lesson and left the teaching to the professionals.  I tested her when we got home and she remembered everything.  Thanks again to the LIFE Instructors today(Bill, Lyle, and the rest).  I've been shooting for years, and I still managed to learn a lot.  Thank you for everything.

This

I thought there's a rule against holding benches anyway.....

Same thing I tell them at the movies, "Are they here? If not, they can use your bench when they show up. I can get the range master if you like."
I worked at a movie theater one summer break while I was in high school. I know for a fact that you cannot hold seats for other people because it's OPEN seating. If they put their shit there and walk away you can toss it, sit there, and they can't say "boo" to you. Well they can say "boo"......

Whoa, take it easy.....

No sense in getting crazy.  There are so many new shooters the range is going to be busy.  Some of these old timers have been there long before many of us.  Not saying its wrong or right, just be cool about it.

Maybe direct your frustrations at the correct place, the city, get more ranges built and more staffing and hours at kokohead.  And as stated before, don't wish for pay to play, WE ALL already pay for the park. JMHO

Early birds get the worms or benches  I dont recognize the term "old timers". Everyone is a user of that park, theres no estebliished seniority. Do we need senior citizen discount cards or something?

Almost forgot.  I heard the RO of the silhouette side getting notified that a gun was stolen from a bench from the bullseye pistol range.  At least I believe they said bullseye range.  That HPD was called down and report filed.  Must have been before 1:30 pm since I didn't see anything while I was there.

Anyways, be careful of your equipment.  Something that I was afraid of, especially on the rifle range, as the the craziness with prices of guns that we're going through now.

I thought there was a rifle bag (with rifle inside) stolen from the rifle range last year as well.

Not sure about the details from yesterday.  Sounds like basically the owner walked away for a little while and when they got back the gun was gone.  Not sure if it was during a target change or something like that.  Yeah, the ROs are watching the line closely, but that's still a LOT of stuff to keep an eye on.  I usually go to the range by myself and I've gone to take a leak and never felt uneasy about that before.  I might get a cable lock for future range sessions if I'm by myself.

thanks!!!! checking out the website now!!!
There are a number of LIFE instructors on here.  I was at the range yesterday talking story with the other instructors since I was there to help a friend test his handgun.

The swearing is pretty out of hand, especially since there are more and more kids around.  I'm no saint, but I'm guessing folks with kids do not appreciate that sort of language.

A young couple walked off with my bag of brass once. I think it was inadverdently. I noticed it missing after I set my gear up. There was a bunch of young adults / teens once that appeared to be casual observers and they asked "I like sampo" and I said hell no. When I use the bathroom, I case up and take all my firearms with me.

I swear to god almost Shart my pants!!! now I always invite or make sure u bomb before the "line is hott" haha...

for the class I would love to go but weekends I'm on call so hard to plan stuff.. the videos looks like fun on the website!! I definatly could use more handgun time

I'm curious why we don't have a paid system, with short (30min-2hour?) reserved slots. If public golf courses do it, why wouldn't it work at Kokohead. I for one, don't mind dropping $5 (or more if it helped add features) to hit the silhouette side, i'm sure most wouldn't bat an eye to do the same for an hour on the Target sides. I would assume some kind of limits on per person/per day for reservations, with open timeslots as first come first served afterwards.

..  but seriously, If we are going to grow the sport, and get more shooters involved, things will hopefully only get busier. We need to make this a more open and inviting experience for the newcomers & the regulars. Not a ...  wait for hours and hours just to get a seat thing. I mean, we already all did that at HPD to register ...  amirite?!

Why do you want to pay for something you already pay for and is your RIGHT to do.  My suggestion is to work your lawmakers to represent your rights.

I agree, so do you know which lawmakers to write to?  Is it by district rep?  I'm still learning the whole politics thing and trying to understand which people have the power to help.  I don't mind writing to help the cause.

Write your city reps first, because this is a park.  Then it would not hurt to write your senator and representative as well..  Hell, write them all! ;D ;D ;D ;)
