With HA, you could transfer miles for free majority of the time. Since me and Mrs. CMO have separate cards, I would give her my miles to book a flight. My parents would also give us their miles as they never travel. This would all be free.
Now they charge basically $10 for every 1,000 miles transfered. Which ends up being the same price as an airline ticket (based on going from HNL to LAS).
Also, you cannot use your miles to upgrade to first class.
The issue is HA is 1 of 2 airlines that go direct to Vegas. Southwest being the other and they're slightly cheaper than HA.
So basically, I'm looking into a new credit card.

Any airline that won't let you upgrade to 1st class using miles must be experiencing a sudden drop in oxygen to the brain!
That's literally what a good many loyal frequent fliers use their accumulated miles for. Taking that away will lose a lot of business.
For example, when I took my wife on a Vegas vacation for her birthday, I booked the flights through United and upgraded the seats to 1st class using my miles. There is no way I was going to pay a few grand for 1st class seating and service, but I'll gladly trade in a couple of free tickets worth of miles for the upgrade.
Something tells me they are going to have a lot more empty seats in both 1st class as well as the other sections.
