HPD says to always be aware of your surroundings, report any suspicious activity and maybe even join your neighborhood watch. If you are a victim of a crime, it’s best to just comply.
“There’s no property that’s worth anybody getting hurt or losing their life over,” said Hayakawa. “The best thing that they can do at that point is just become a good witness.”
maybe the surge is attributed to a predictable victim response that is pushed by our civic leaders?

I'm saying HPD's advice is a carbon copy for ALL crimes.

....
Your lawyer friends would tell you the same thing.
Here are my thoughts on the situation....
I keep a few dollars with me all the time just in case some crackheads attack me. The idea is to offer the crackhead some money to go away.
If they take the money and leave, then you just skip your next plate lunch.
If they persist in coming after you, then draw, look for your front sight, and put a couple rounds center of mass then immediately call 911. Then your honest testimony would be, "I offered them money to leave me alone but they kept coming...I was afraid that they were going to kill me."
That's just my opinion.

"Castle Doctrine" (HRS §703-304, §703-305)
Unlawful Entry: The doctrine applies when someone makes an unlawful and forcible entry into your home.
Reasonable Belief: You must reasonably believe that deadly force is necessary to prevent death or serious bodily injury to yourself or others, not just to protect property.
Justification for Deadly Force: Deadly force is only justifiable if you reasonably believe it is immediately necessary to protect against:
Death
Serious bodily injury
Kidnapping
Rape or forcible sodomy
All the above is what I'm automatically thinking so unlawful entry into my hale will leave you with unwanted pukas

And the civil attorney suing you on behalf of the crackheads' families will say you used that cash to lure them in so you could execute them.
Nothing is ever as black and white as it should be. We have lawyers to thank (hate) for that!
The first thing we do, let’s kill all the lawyers.
Act IV, Scene II, Henry VI, Part II

That shouldn't be directed at property owners, it should be directed at people considering taking someone else's property. My thought is if someone is willing to break the laws of breaking and entering, robbery, and theft, why should I believe they won't break the laws of assault, possibly with deadly force, manslaughter, or murder? With that in mind, I need to protect myself and family. To all politicians, you should be telling criminals not to criminal, not telling law abiding citizens they need to surrender their rights , safety, property , and possible their life, to the whim of a law breaker.

Other cases where there's no threat of violance but entry is unlawful. Party crashers. An ex grabbing their personal stuff from your home. I'm sure theres a lot of other reasons.

Do you mean "butt entry"
I was referring to "forcible sodomy".
I mean aren't Death, Serious bodily injury, Rape and Kidnapping all done by "force" ?
