So apparently M1 Garands and Government 1911s were the peak of corrosion inhibitor technology
Looks like it's time to try some experiments with Ospho.
Curious to get dogman's take

Thank you. I was feeling bad about all the stuff I threw away but you helped put it into perspective.

Great stuff, but try buying phosphoric acid here with all the Hazmat shipping restrictions.
It is available but in drums or really pricey smaller quantities
If somebody has a source...

Being oceanfront, I've been using Ospho for decades.
Problem is you need rust for it to work !
Guess I'll have to sand down my glock uppers and leave them outside in the rain this weekend.
Another good product is RustCop
https://petroleumservicecompany.com/carwell-rust-inhibitor-rust-cop/
Can be used on dissimilar metals where electrolysis will occur., eliminates moisture containing salt, dirt, and air pollutants from the surface of metal, lubricates moving parts, 100% non-conductive with ability to remove and repel moisture, replaces the use of di-electric grease for batteries, fuse boxes and wiring during the "Periodic Maintenance schedule."
Downside is "Periodic Maintenance schedule." means every 6-9 months here in Hawaii.
Been waiting to spray the underside of my "Brand New" 2010 Tacoma with Rust Cop but weather been holding me off

They sell a product here called ospho which is part phosphoric acid. The regular hardware stores should carry it.
