How ironic this research is aimed at identifying stressors to whales by tagging them with "drones" via a dropped tag with suction cups.

“It’s a complete game changer,” said Lars Bejder, director of the Marine Mammal Research Program. “We’re putting less pressure on the animals. We don’t have to get close to them.”  You don't have to get close to them if you didn't have the desire to "research" them.

Who's paying for these dumb ass "just so they can have a job" ideas?

Better not be my tax dollars.

Here's a thought:  Best conservation method is to leave the animals alone.  And get a real job.
