Title: Shilen custom actions
Post by: Heavies on August 28, 2010, 11:30:12 AM
All that talk, in the other thread, about precision shooting made me think of the rifle I'm trying to biuld.  Then I remember seeing this a while back.

They will sell the complete rifle or the barreled action.  This action seems to blend the best of both Remington 700 and Savage bolt actions into one, and throw in a custom Shilen barrel, I think we got a winner.
Good points of the reminton action IMO is the availabillity of aftermarket parts.  You can find great stocks, triggers, and mounts just about anywhere.
Points an the Savage is the floating bolt head, and the barrel nut, which allows handi gun owners to easily change out barrels, switch to different calibers, etc. without the need for a gunsmith.

If I had seen this eariler I think I would have went this route, but allass, I'm still waiting for my action to come in. :(

What I like about the Savage route is that you can do your own barrel work. It cuts down on some of the expense and gives you greater insight into what you are shooting. I think there are almost as many savage parts as R700 parts too. I think you made a good choice, just bad timing. :(

Any update from the retailer you ordered your action from yet? (Sharpshooters Supply?)

The latest, I was promised the action would be shipped by the 20th of August, It wasn't.  I tried calling and emailing on the 20th with no response. I then emailed again on the 23th, SSS said the action is done, but, conveniently(for them), they were unable to find my FFL's info.  So, I had to have my FFL try to re-fax, but he informed me that SSS fax wouldn't pick up, it just rings and rings.  So my FFL had to send his paperwork regular snail mail.   That's where I am at right now... :P

Oh yeah, as for the stock, I have no idea when that will be completed..
