Look what was hiding in today's Garden Island news.
Perry said he is speaking with other island police departments on how to respond to a communication from the State Attorney General’s office regarding an open records request form asking for a list of all registered hand gun and rifle owners in the state of Hawai‘i.
The whole story. http://thegardenisland.com/news/local/police-commission-holds-st-meeting-of-talks-budget-marijuana-arrest/article_9085c1dc-684f-11e2-8b3c-0019bb2963f4.html (http://thegardenisland.com/news/local/police-commission-holds-st-meeting-of-talks-budget-marijuana-arrest/article_9085c1dc-684f-11e2-8b3c-0019bb2963f4.html)

If they release them, I'll officially have my excuse to never register anything again, ever. I kind of hope they do, so when I get jammed up for an unregistered gun I can claim a choice of evils defense.

Awww no body cares about us.:(:(:(

These fkrs publish any lists like the mainland did and there's going to be hell to pay! So what on earth does the AG want or need with such list?
-
I feel so WANTED now.
-
cant the AG just ask the pd himself?
-
must be getting close to round up time

I'm not sure it is the AG asking for the FOIA and it sounds like the police chief has some concerns over such a release:

“We are working together with the County Attorney’s office and the Attorney General to see how best to address this issue,” Perry said.
“This type of exposure would place gun owners in harm’s way and they may become victims themselves. This is not only us but the whole state.”
I wonder who made the request. There is already a decision that says personal info on gun permits is not to be released via FOIA requests....

I was about to post this same thought. In addition to what you said, if it was the AG wanting the info, I don't think A) he'd have to ask, I think he'd just "direct", and B) it would be internal and not in the papers.

An opinion Bill. And one that could be "after further review, we believe that the attorney general is doing this for a lw enforcement purpose." lol

Talked to a buddy / police commissioner friend of mine to clear that up, it was the AG asking for the list.
