Post by: Aiea78 on February 01, 2013, 02:04:52 PM
H.R. 437: To regulate assault weapons, to ensure that the right to keep and bear arms is not unlimited, and for other purposes.

The next vote on this bill will occur in the House of Representatives. How should your representative vote?

It should be noted that this bill is on the national level and not the state level. I was wondering why we haven't heard about this one through post on here as being on the slate for the 2013 Hawaii legislative session. That and another one on top of the AWB introduced in the Hawaii State Senate would be even more sickening.

My reply.  Feel free to modify and use to oppose HR 437 and other legislation.

POPVOX required I edit down what I originally wanted to send, so if you add some, remember to remove some as well.

Dear congressperson,

HR 437 is useless, and I oppose it. Assault weapons have already been heavily regulated since June 26, 1934 on the passage of the National Firearms Act.

The term, "assault weapon" or "assault rifle" being thrown around is a complete misnomer, used to confuse the public. "Assault rifle" refers to an individual rifle with the ability to be fired from the shoulder, capable of selective fire (i.e., being able to switch between semiautomatic and automatic), and fires an intermediate cartridge. As said earlier, these are already heavily regulated by the BATFE.

The so-called "assault weapons" HR 437 refers to are the most popular rifles used today. Pistol grips do not make a rifle any more deadly than a rifle without one. A bayonet lug hasn't been the leading factor of a death in the US since the Civil War. Grenade launchers are already heavily regulated by the NFA also. Collapsible stocks don't make a rifle any more deadly--if it already meets minimum length requirements, who cares if it can be made longer?

The Second Amendment is very clear.  It states, "...shall not be infringed."  How much clearer must it be?

Do the right, logical, and responsible thing, and let this bill die.

How do these fecking idiots get elected to national office without understanding the basic function of the three branches of the government they're members of???  :wtf:  Pretty sure if I remember correctly from civics class, the COURTS are the ones who decide the scope of Constitutional rights, and whether or not they're unlimited.
