Any places or recommendations? There was an earlier posting about this but it was for Big island.

Sports authority has the best selection. Wait for their coupon, it really helps on the price.

Yup that's when I got mines
-
I was debating for the longest time about what safe to get. I went to sports authority so much time to look at them and was tempted to buy one every sale they had. The only thing is that the only one that was in the size I needed was a gun locker. Which was better than nothing but not secure enough for me
Finally ended up going with one from lowes. Decent price and decent protection
-
Security Equipment until Carter brings in more safes (which he isn't).
-
How are you guys getting them into place?
-
^^^Bro................3 older out of shape guys humping a several hundred pound safe downstairs for me. I'm dreading when I find a nice big safe.
-
you can pay lowes (and i believe home depot) to deliver
they call it "to the curb" because that's all they are contracted to do
the guys that dropped off my safe put it in my garage
i had only me and my friend (two mid 40s 5'7" 160 lb jibonees) and one of those square dollies to move a 12 gun safe into my house
lowes safe is more fire resistant than the one at home depot
plus the home depot one is electronic lock and the lowes one is manual
home depot is in stock more often than lowes
How are you guys getting them into place?
-
Some safes, you can remove the door very easily. I suggest you look into that first as doors can weigh at least 50% of thr total lbs.
-
when I tried moving my safe myself with a hand truck up some stairs, the safe tipped over and smashed me against the stairs. Pushed all the wind out of me and cause me to release a loud wheeze. Thought I broke a rib. Couple hours later took off the door, no thanks to the instructions or help from the web. Carried it in with the help of a friend.
When I buy a bigger safe I'm gonna pay some big mofos to move it to save me the trouble
-
be sure to pick those big mofos carefully
don't want them or their friends trying to get your safe/guns later
not that there's anything wrong with big mofos
and small mofos may have bad intentions too

Aloha lock and key has safes. The sports authority/sams club/costco safes are crap. Better than nothing though, just make sure you bolt it down. Do a search on youtube for breaking into safe. There is a video of 2 guys breaking into a $1000 safe in 1 minute 46 seconds or so.
Like most things, you get what you pay for with safes.
-
Yup got mines at sports authority
-
Where is Aloha Lock and Key? Tried googling but nothing comes up but out of state companies. Thanx
-
401 Cooke Street. They changed their name to Aloha Key Awards and Gifts.

Depends why you are buying a safe - i.e. fire protection, theft protection, or as in my case to prevent my kids from accessing the firearms. So, in my case, the cheap Stack On "gun safe" (which is basically a metal locker) meets my intention.
I saw a GREAT video on youtube on gun safes and I thought someone here posted it before, but cannot find it now.

As sikryd stated "you get what you pay for." If you want a very secure safe for your firearms/valuables then plan to spend at least $10k+

Anyone with comments on the Stack-On Elite Fireproof safes Sports Auth. sells? They have their 24gun on sale this week. Haven't checked availability locally, but looks to be a decent deal.

Any safe is better than nothing! Just read somewhere on another topic about someone not owning a safe because the amount of money you would spend for a safe he can buy another firearm! WTF are you thinking? Obviously he's not thinking because if someone was to ever steal his firearm and commit a crime with it, he would still be responsible which he probably will be charge for some kind of felony and lose his right to own a firearm. If you don't have the $$$ to buy a safe(anything type of safe) than my feeling is you shouldn't own a firearm!

I agree it was a good deal but sold out quick. I checked this afternoon and there was one left at Kapolei SA so I headed there but was beat out by a few minutes. One worker told me a customer had purchased 3 yesterday!! :shake: don't think anymore coming in before Sale ends... >:(

Bumping this since SA is now gone. I think I've seen stuff on here about Aloha Lock and Key but they seem to be about the only option. Anyone know if they do curbside delivery?

Aloha lock and key and Security equipment corp both sell American security safes and both places offer some sort of delivery. Other places would be other gun shops, lowes, Home Depot, Sams club and Costco.

There is a free safe on craigslist. It's big and heavy.

I checked out most safes online. Most companies, won't ship to Hawaii or have in store pick up (walmart, Amazon, Kmart, Lowes, Home Depot, Sams.)
But Lowes does let you order in store and they will ship it to the store here. Problem is that it takes months because it comes by ship with their other stuff from the mainland. So it all depends when the ship will leave port. And you have to pay for it up front. If you want a refund then you have to wait for the safe to arrive then receive full refund.
X-ring sells safes, but they charge for delivery and by step ($10 a step). So you might spend just as much on a safe for delivery.
Fisher sells some security cabinets.
Luckily I ordered from Bass Pro Shops. 1 day shipping was just as much as the safe itself. The next morning I just happened to double check and shipping was $30. So I ordered from there and it came in about a week.

Change,
Can you tell us which one you order from BPS.

Aloha lock and key has safes.
American security safes

They deliver

Another :shaka: for AMSEC safes. I got mine in the early 90's from Magnum. Combination lock style with key to lock/unlock combo wheel. Still going strong with no issues, no service needed, except I should have bought bigger.
Aloha Key as others said has AMSEC and they would probably be good for any servicing if any needed. Check Fishers also for type of safes they sell.

Check Sturdy Safes https://www.sturdysafe.com/ (https://www.sturdysafe.com/)
They are a bit more expensive than the big box stores, but are MUCH MUCH more secure - a sawzall would rip through the former like a hot knife through butter. And, since they are the manufacturer (read: direct sales instead of through middlemen & retailer) the price you pay for what you get is very reasonable.
Read their safe buying tips & how their safes are built.

Looks like they do not ship to Hawaii :( I plan to call them tomorrow
