Tonights episode "Pain is Good"...
Meet Craig, a proud Alaskan living in the woods of Fairbanks, fearing the collapse of the American economy. He's secretly built a bug-out dome, designed by friend and prepping partner Don. Accessible only by boat, the dome will serve as a refuge for his wife and two daughters. Then we follow David, a new age spiritual prepper from Hawaii, who fears a catastrophic tsunami will strike the island but has prepped with his girlfriend to bug out to the top of a mountain.
Hmmm...Somehow I get the feeling this featured person is going to make Hawaii look like a state that's full of fruitcakes.
I'm predicting 6 months survival.

Yup.
He's not entirely wrong in his approach and he's in one of the few places on earth where almost nothing is so poisonous it is going to kill him. But purposely bugging out with nothing - not even shoes - is stupid. I know some really hardcore folks who can walk into the wild with nothing and survive so I know it can be done that way... but "your body is an antenna" isn't their Plan A. Idiot. There are plenty of high quality edible foods and about 2 monhts of effort would give the 2 of them a good working knowledge.
Given that he and the other thousands that escape the wave are going to be competing for the same few berries left on the mountain top I'm guessing these 2 aren't really thinking this through from all angles.

Bug out to the top of a mountain? Ha ha ha ha..........he wasn't here a couple of years ago with our tsunami?
-
What happens when it gets cold at night.
-
What island?

kauai
Another kauai hippy

He "asks" for a blanket from a higher power or just cuddles with his silicone girlfriend.

My son thought the same and blurted out: "Fah-ken HIPPIES!" I couldn't help but laugh and say "Eh, watch your mouth!"
I think the show is just entertainment at this point. The Alaskan guy in the first part was right...those practical prepper guys don't know shit. People with the right skills can (and do) spend a lifetime living in the wilderness, but they only got 17 months?? And then 3 months for the piss drinking barefoot idiot? Nope. Anyone who's been in Waimea valley knows he'd be lucky to survive 3 hours and that's IF he even makes to shore and up the trail before a tsunami hits.
-
Only 3 months survival :o
-
What a kook! :wtf:
-
LOL
Must be one of the guys who jumped in the harbor to stop the Superferry
-
shit and im working there this week.

Actually got to watch the episode last night. My take on things;
The guys in Alaska, if they are for real subsistence people, they can last a pretty damn long time. I agree with the guy on that. The security issue though, unless they are willing to kill someone, they are toast. I don't think they understand what it takes especially if they think their little dome is "bullet proof."
The Kauai hippy dude............what a moron. He is going to get the shits from drinking that water. He is going to get sick from eating the wrong berry, plant, root sooner or later. He is going to get an infection and have to have something amputated. That being said, I like the rack his gf has.
-
Just watched it! Smh on the 2 Hippies! No prepping skills at all! No knive, shoes, proper clothing & shelter! In his final assessment he decides to add a knive, rope & a lighter! How u gonna kill a wil boar and make smoke meat! Lmfao!

Don't have a TV at home, but by reading this, I was thinking WTF??
Everyone knows a knife, rope, and at least two Bic lighters are the first things in a survival kit! Any rope is nice, but 550 works great since you can gut it and use the same lengths for multiple uses simultaneously.

unless of course he prays to mother earth and asks her to watch over him while he drinks and eats then of course he will live at least 3 1/2 months...easy!!

yeah I was thinking the same thing, just had to shake my head when he did that

Is it just me or did anyone else get the impression the Silicone MILF was not at his side when he decided to take his dog and bug out at the very end? She probably didn't like the idea of drinking his piss and left his candy ass. Did you notice also when they were climbing the mountain that she was not only keeping up with him but she didn't seem out of breath when he was having a hard time catching his?
-
Lmfao when she didn't want to drink his piss!

Hilo has had some pretty devastating tsunami's before. Some of the harbors got beat up a bit the last time...............however if this idiot thinks he needs to climb 4,000 ft (and it ain't 4,000 ft), then..................

Kahana valley got hit before. Damaged the fishpond and washed out a school where children died.
Hilo also got hit by a tsunami, and I think that's when they decided to start the early warning center
-
Some of the people they have on this show clearly have no clue.. some are well prepared. I got a kick out of the guy who was making a faraday cage out of a metal trash can and to test if it works he puts a couple radios inside and hooks jumper cables from his truck battery to the trash can WTF? ???
The dude on Kauai was pretty bad. I am surprised they rated him as high as they did. I hope his "intuition" works out when SHTF but i wouldn't count on it!
-
That was soo funny! :D
-
Tsunami's are a huge threat. Just because we haven't had a serious one in recent memory doesn't mean we won't.
If the great crack lets go here in the BI the wave that hits Oahu could be as high as 1000 feet. You have about 30 minutes warning. The wave that hits the west coast of the US, though, could be as high as 5000 feet. The 4-5 hours warning they get won't do them much good. Enough time to buy some whiskey and get sloshed before the wind kills you and the water washes you and the rest of your city over the coast range, into the central valley and up against the Sierra Nevadas. That's exactly what happened when the Moloka'i slide let go some 8000 years ago.
There are similar slides and megatsunamis in the Atlantic island chain, too, in case you ever wondered where the Atlantis and great flood stories may have come from.
Haoli hippy isn't wrong when he prioritizes getting altitude fast. He's still an idiot, though.
-
Tsunamis are a great threat to Hawaii, we should all be prepared...
In an immediate tsunami threat, getting to higher ground is first priority! But with today's advanced information and warnings, traveling without any "emergency" gear or preps is just plain outright foolish.
-
Hawaii prepping for long blackout periods or without water would have been better. Tsunamis are either too small, or God forbid a island wipeout destructive one that neither would need to prep for.
-
Hahahahaaa!! Gzire, classic.
I gotta check this episode out, I haven't been keeping up with the show.
Though I have to say, I don't mind when they have kooks or clueless people. It would just be downright disheartening if all they showed were the people who are ready for it all. It's cool seeing people who are in the process of learning like most of us.
Anyone remember the older couple who stashed knives all over the house for home-defense? Hilarious yet kind of awesome! :geekdanc:
