just out of curiosity, what are youre methods of breaking in a barrel on an AR15? I have gotten conflicting info on AR break ins, some say its not neccessary and other swear by it, I have a colt 6940 (never been shot...YET!!!) and was wondering what was your thoughts on this issue, is it neccessary or not? :shaka:

It's not necessary. By simply shooting your rifle, you will eventually reach a "sweet spot" that's right for you. No special rituals or specific number of rounds.

I've searched for a while looking for an answer to this question. A few people have have suggested a few ways but the majority says pretty much what colt808 said. "Just shoot it"

Clean the grease and other stuff from shipping/storage, lube it up and shoot.
If I had a custom match barrel, I would probably follow the barrel manufacturer's recommendations, but no need for breaking in a chrome lined barrel.

It is what the manufacturer of that barrel says to do.
Noveske says just shoot it for their barrels.

my colt manual says nothing about barrel break ins

I believe it for a SS barrel, but don't subscribe to it with your standard AR barrel.

i think it was speedtek who posted a ritual barrel breaking in process. cleaning after every round. then when you get to 5 its every 5 or something. maybe he will post it up
