See how these flag officers think of gun ownership in gun-ban ad. http://t.co/x8zabcpHtQ

I guess I'm a coward.
A well armed coward.

Link didn't work for me, here's the direct link: http://www.politico.com/politico44/2013/02/gun-control-ad-assault-weapons-not-for-cowards-157877.html (http://www.politico.com/politico44/2013/02/gun-control-ad-assault-weapons-not-for-cowards-157877.html)
"Guns belong on a battlefield," "guns belong some place safe and secure." These people sure know what they are talking about. Put these guys in control of and army, and sure they know what's going on, but when it comes to the 2nd, they don't know jack.
-
That's why I am wary of part time soldiers / politicians.
"I was in the <fill in the blank> and I know how powerful these weapons are..."
"In the <fill n the blank> we had to register weapons and keep them in a safe on post, so citizens should do that as well"
In my experience, few service members see the irony they are in - they belong to a socialist organization that is defending a democratic society. Just because a certain method/procedure is done in the military doesn't mean it is the best idea in the civie world.
-
Screw that, someone should put a Fort Hood victim in their damn face and tell them "Yeah all the firearms were at the armory, that sure as hell didn't stop someone from walking up and shooting people on base..."

A favorite quote of mine:
"Opinions are like assholes...Everybody has one"
Given enough time or money, you can find somebody to say anything you want. Then reccord it, edit it into a video, and present it to the public to influence opinions or behavior. It is called advertising.
This is no different than somebody telling you that drinking Heineken and using Old Spice deodorant will make you sexy and popular.
It is unfortunate that many people are too lazy to think for themselves and see through the bs.
I reckon I am a coward too. A proud gun-totin' all american, well informed coward. Amen.

Another proud, gun-totin' all American, well informed coward here!

In a state of tranquillity, wealth, and luxury, our descendants would forget the arts of war and the noble activity and zeal which made their ancestors invincible. Every art of corruption would be employed to loosen the bond of union which renders our resistance formidable. When the spirit of liberty, which now animates our hearts and gives success to our arms, is extinct, our numbers will accelerate our ruin and render us easier victims to tyranny. If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquillity of servitude than the animating contest of freedom—go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen!
Samuel Adams

Real men use double barreled shotguns.

Famous words of Samuel Colt:
"Fear no man no matter size,
count on me I'll equalize."

Are you a coward for owning a semi-auto ?
Seriously? That's what you guys are getting from the 30 second commerical? I watched it several times trying to figure out where all the indignation is coming from. Maybe some are having difficulty comprehending:
"...not for cowards to use", "in movie theaters", "in classrooms", "or on our streets".
People who use any weapon against the helpless/innocent ARE cowards. So I've no problem with that statement and don't see why anyone else would.

===========================
Ad quote: " Assault weapons are weapons of war, not for cowards to use in movie theaters, classrooms or ....." etc.
Think about the context of the ad as a whole. By putting forth a statement like that, I deduce that the writers of the ad are trying to convince viewers that:
1- Semi-auto rifles are not for civilian use.
2- Since cowards use such firearms to assault people, then therefore all people who own such firearms are cowards.
Perhaps the message is a bit subtle...almost subliminal. But it is there.
If you look at the name of the sponsor, it is not entirely obvious what it is..."Demand a plan .org"
If you study the well-written script, you will see the psychological aspect:
Ad script:
“I know. I know what guns can do. Guns in the right hands protect us. Guns belong on battlefields. Guns belong in a place that’s safe and secure. Assault weapons are weapons of war, not for cowards to use. Movie theaters, classrooms or on our streets. As a general, as an admiral, as a member of the armed forces, as a gun owner, I demand a plan. Demand action. Enough. Enough. Enough.”
You see how the writer flips back and forth trying to confuse the casual viewer?
Thomas Jefferson,(1796) wrote: "Go on doing with your pen what in other times was done with the sword."
This is high-level psy-war ops.

I don't disagree with your first point of the implied message, but the second is a bit of a reach.

huh if I own a firearm legally I'm a coward? This is getting all kinds of crazy now. So what does that make our military and the govornment who arms them with the most lethal, cutting edge weapons in the world? :wtf:
-
I don't disagree with your first point of the implied message, but the second is a bit of a reach.
for one, if it was "high level psy-ops", it probably wouldnt be able to be dissected by some random dude after seeing it for 3 minutes.

yeah, ok. Maybe it is a bit of a reach. I inhaled too much lead and mercury particles.
But you have to admit, using those "Authority-figures" to spew benign phrases intertwined with provocative ideology was pretty clever, eh?

Perhaps "Psy-war ops" was an exaggeration. But this random dude has been dissecting television advertising for over 35 years.

Sure, but (to me) it's no more clever than any other ad.

I can agree with that part. Maybe not high level, but it's there. Again, that's just advertising in general...just psychological warfare to get people to buy what they're selling.
The point I was making is that inferring something that just isn't there becomes very counterproductive. And I don't see how anyone would group themselves with emotionally unstable and morally corrupt individuals like Holmes, Lanza, or Loughner by proudly declaring themselves a "coward" for owning guns. I know some meant it to be tongue-in-cheek responses to a perceived slight, but I take the issue seriously and strongly feel gun owners should try to remain appropriate/mature with their words and actions. Personally, I'd have chosen words that distance the myself (and legal gun owners) from the nutty bunch.
-
sigh :(
I fear I may have crossed over into the tin-foil hat crowd...paranoia induced by the blitz of anti-gun stories on tv nowdays.
OK, time to get back to more useful endeavors.

oh, im not saying its they arent trying some subversive manipulation. they are clearly trying to contrast a position subtly but negatively.

Brother...we're old so that's kind of expected at some point.

I guess im a coward with a semi auto! Lol
-
Coward?
No, just too lazy to operate a bolt action rifle
-
I own personal defense weapons not assault weapons.
>:(

Worthless video of pieced together statements... That's what they do... exploit peoples ignorance for their personal anti-gun gain. sad....
