This started as an offshoot of my latest purchase. I had fun flying Ravens in Iraq and thought about flying FPV again in a heli configuration. I flew RC helis for about a year when we got back then thought it was dumb but fun. I recently got the bug again and decided to build an FPV heli out of a TREX 500. Right now, I experimented with a 2.4 gHz wireless cam system but I had too much interference with my Futaba 2.4 spread spectrum radio, so I am pursuing a 900 mHz wireless cam. I've seen vid of people flying for a mile or two up and down some pretty scenery. That's my goal. But right now, I am weighing cost and time. I think it would be also beneficial to pit duties or checking a target at 200 yards or beyond as these wireless cams can transmit easily at that range and give great detail. Shoot, then fly out to target or setup the cam below the target and use a 9" or smaller monitor as a spotting scope. Just don't shoot the cam.
ANyways, I wrote this psot in response to another member's request and to share my exp. I may have to get a ham operator's license if I get into certain freqs and power ranges.

I fly FPV. If you're interested I have a 1.3 ghz set up that I was thinking about selling. You might want to go FM. The 2.4 ghz radios have a very limited range when flying FPV. FM is a better signal for FPV and is good out to 1.5 miles. The best is UHF. I also have a spare futaba 9cap fm that I was going to use with a dragon link but never got the time to order the module. Hit me up if you're interested. I also have a bunch of eagle tree stuff lying around including a auto tracker set up. Maybe we can work out a deal.
