Got an email today regarding new hours at Kokohead. Wed-Fri is 12pm to 4pm. Sat and Sun is 8am to 4pm.
Starting April 1.

:shaka: I received a call from Kokohead Complex since I let my Council Member follow up about my requests for KKSC and they let me know that the damaged roofs will be fixed soon too!! They will be starting by months end or April and will work around the schedule as to not cause any shut downs while being reparied. :geekdanc:

A meeting with Mayor Caldwell and the new Parks Director last week resulted in the expanded hours. More good stuff talked about, but too early to say what and the chances of getting them done. But, it's a start and the follow thru for Mayor Caldwell's promises during his campaign.

Just received a call from someone at the C&C Dept of Parks & Rec... :thumbsup: They said starting April 3rd since Monday, April 1st, is a regular closed day. New hours are Wed - Fri 12-4, Sat - Sun 8-4, and still closed on Mon and Tues.

They use to open on holidays before the cut backs...Mondays & Tuesdays were always closed unless a holiday fell on those days..

Good news. Thanks to all here on 2Ahawaii that fought for this when they decided to cut the hours! We can make a difference! Happy that Caldwell came through on his promises. Now he just had to get the silly idea of raising taxes out of his head, lol. ;D :thumbsup: :shaka:

It's official:
The original range hours of operation have been restored as of April 1, 2013. Noon to 4PM Wednesday to Friday and 8AM to 4PM Saturday, Sunday and all holidays expect Christmas and New Years Day. Thank you Mayor Kirk Caldwell
If you are so inclined send a short email "thank you" to the new city Parks director Toni Robinson and Mayor Caldwell for the restoration of the Kokohead Shooting Complex hours of operation.

I too was skeptical even with all the previous posts from respected 2A members. Seemed too good to be true. But, now "I am a true believer." :geekdanc: :thumbsup: :shaka:
Just sent my thank you emails to the mayor and the new parks & recs director. Wasn't too sure if Toni was male or female seeing how people name their kids. But, found out that female she is, then the next dilemma was whether to address her as Ms. or Mrs. as I am pretty sure that she is married and again not sure if she would be offended by Ms. or Mrs. Finally settled on "Aloha Parks Director Robinson." Probably over analyzed it . . .
I am optimistic that this director will actually do something for KHSC like repair the roof that hasn't been there for over a year.
Maybe it will be like the good old days (two years ago) when I could go to the rifle range at 7:30, 30 mintures before they open, and had choke open benches. :D

The mayor was out there on Saturday with a news crew. I got to thank him and show some appreciation for his efforts. I commented that we need a place to continually enjoy our hobby in a safe and responsible manner.

KITV and HNN (ch. 7 and 8) gave the story short shrift, but at least they sent a "shooter" -- newsroom parlance for a photographer. The Star-Advertiser didn't bother (after they reported the new hours in Kokua Line on Friday). You'd think Hawaii's only statewide daily paper would show up when Honolulu's top elected official goes to the range. But you would be wrong.

They updated the website last week with the caveat "Effective April 1, 2013", but they forgot to LEAVE the current schedule, too! :wtf:
So, they removed the new schedule and reposted the current one. I guess they will swap them again on April 1st ... which is TODAY!! :shaka:
The range is closed Mon & Tue, so they have plenty of time to make the change (again).

I'll reserve my right to vote for/against him until I see further movement towards helping us.
You are new here so you might not be aware of how large the budget is for the area in which the KHSC sits, but it's only several hundred thousand short of a million dollars. They don't bullet mine and they haven't done other improvements, so to me the C&C still has about $500,000 they can spend every year on the complex.

This press op for the mayor was a way of trying to show that he supports 2a rights without really saying so. He chose his words carefully by stating KHSC was one of the busiest parks on the island. He skirted around saying that he is outright progun. Whether he truely is or isn't, the change back to normal hours is of some consellation to our crowd. One extra hour still won't make a dent in people camping out for benches. :shaka:
