Who cares?

Every job has its perks.

He simply scheduled a city park for his little league team.

He shouldn't be fined at all.

Sheesh... How can this elected official spend so much in a foreign country when the government cannot even pay for its budget?

I can't imagine how one can spend 1/2 million on a single night stay in a hotel.

So now you're trying to compare the Vice President spending $600,000 of tax payers money on a hotel stay to some guy that allowed a little league team to play in a park that was intended to have kids play in?

FAIL

It was only for his kids, no one else.  It's different if this was for all the kids.

Negative.

Read the story again.

Teams he coached or teams that his kid played on.

Unless he has 15 kids of his own, many happy families including the families of the other teams that played there got to enjoy the park.

Anyone who has ever coached knows that your team only plays one game and there's many other games that go on before and after your game on that day.

I say we give this guy a medal for his exemplary work in the community with the children.

BS it's for the field his kids play on period.  By "his kids" I mean the kids he coaches.  When my dad used to coach all the kids on the team were his kids.

Did he use his influence to do other fields? No.

What about bumping all the other people that scheduled the field per the C&C's standards?  You want to give him a medal for that?  You saying that's the example we want for the people who work for him?

I agree "small favors" for himself but he was in a position of trust and his position was to serve the public, tax paying interests - not his own.  He circumvented the process designed to be fair to all park users.  It is akin to someone cutting in line at the firearms registration line because that person knows somebody's uncle's son in HPD.
Imagine if this was pertaining to granting CCWs here in Hawaii? What if only close friends and family of the HPD Chief were granted CCWs and no one else?
Obviously, as evident in resulting replies, we tolerate it here in Hawaii and some feel that a person in such a position is afforded perks.  There are moral and ethical implications here, and resounds all the way to the top of our country's leadership.  When our top leadership can afford to spend out $$$ on perks that they justify due to position or the "nation's best interest" while the rest of our country is struggling with govt. functions and the like, that sends a negative example down to the the local level; as witnessed in the report I posted.  Now this is my opinion and to be fair we heard the media's take on this, but City counsel and the parks director also found him out of line. I think that our present country's generations is harvesting the fruits that previous generations planted w/o considering planting more fruit. I think that WWII resulted in that great generation (100-442 comes to mind) that did the planting for us. i.e. industry, innovation, manufacturing, skilled labor etc.

"What if" your dad ran a country, then died and now you are in control of a crapload of nuclear weapons.  Then you said hey Hawaii, I'm aiming these cool Nukes at you cause this is perks of my job.  But don't pay attention to me cause you have much greater problems to worry about like that guy who abused his job perks so that kids could practice sports.

Huh?  I do not understand your logic.  So the director of parks & recreation for the C & C of Honolulu is also responsible for our national defense?

I wonder what kind of an award he would get if his job was running the shooting range and one of the perks was for him to let his "kids" get first choice of times and benches while others got whatever was left?  Hmmmm... would suck to not be his "kid."
