Title: rifle shooting targets allowed at kokohead range
Post by: silat on March 31, 2013, 10:20:38 PM
Hi,

i bought some rifle shooting targets for my AK from the mainland. it is the heavy duty gong type in the middle supported by the metal frame. Am i able to use them at the rifle range on the rifle side? I also have metal targets with stands the spining targets good for 22's and 45's can i use them on the pistol side of the range as well ?

Mahalo,

silat

I don't know the official answer but I've seen people set those up.  Just yesterday too in fact.

Went to the range last weekend and witness this same problem.

I asked range officer what are the rules...

Range offical speciffically stated:  Rimfire is ok at 50yrds, Center fire only @ 100yrds...  LOL

I have used an 8-inch metal disc *suspended from a metal frame) at 100 yards several times in the past , firing at  it with 5.56 and  M1carbine. However, I always check with one of the veteran  RSOs first.

Spinners at 50 yds with .22LR is allowed. (Some guys even have 'em mounted on their wood target frames).  I usually place my ground-mounted spinners at least three paces beyond the 50-yard target frame holders. Less chance of errant shots from rookies who are with me busting up the holders.

I run my rifle gongs at 100 on a wood frame and my smaller gongs on my 50 yard target frame. Haven't had any issues yet, I prefer the 50 yard gongs to be on a wood frame so they have a little extra elevation, this is especially helpful on the right side of the range that needs serious grading and leveling work done.
