It's happened twice (that I know of).  I organized one at The Varsity, and Chris hosted one at his home.  Both were in the early days of this forum.  I'd sure be up for another!

It sounds like a great idea !

I nominate Aiea78 to organize this thing !    :D

Any other nominees ?  The folks that did the capitol rally ?

I was there for the one at Chris' place and it was great to actually meet other forum members and talk story. We had good food, good people and good times!

I'd be down for another one!

I will put in some hours to help clear out a new range if I can use it and it's on the leeward side
I've only met a few forum members, but my first impression is everyone was pretty awesome.  Like me
I would be down for some pau hana grindz and drinks

+1; I'd be willing to clear shrubbery for a new range!!

What is the HOA clubhouse?

Love the idea of someone hosting at their house, but I might also suggest a public establishment over someone's house, for these reasons:

1.  Rolling up to a public establishment might be seen as more of a "neutral grounds" and present a less intimidating environment for some of the meeker members.

2.  Not saying it WOULD happen, but if anyone gets outta hand, then it becomes the establishment's problem and not the host's problem.

3.  Maybe the host doesn't want everyone to know where he/she lives and give strangers any first-hand intel as to interior layout of the host's home.  OPSEC, baby!!

We got a small rec center in our Homeowners Association we can rent for like $50. I'm not letting you characters in my house.

It's located in Aiea so it's centrally located for town, east side, west side. It's got restrooms and a living room sized building with a covered patio and a small parking lot.  They provide tables, we just gotta set them up.

If anyone gets outta hand we make them do the walk of shame. Everyone I've met so far on this forum has been super cool.

Could make it BYOB / potluck.
I like the idea of a private establishment, but often find it harder to mingle if everyone's sitting at a table or down the bar.

Heck we could have Hello my name stickers with our user names so people can put face to post.

Just thinking out loud so we actually get this thing off the ground.  Open to all suggestions.

Can anyone suggest a place ?

Yes.  I suggest Rainbow Marina if someone can score that area.  Has big covered structure, loads of parking, 2 grills, view of Pearl Harbor etc.  I'd chip in for a bounce house!  Err, for the kids!  :)

Something like that.  or Hans L'orange (sp)?  Kaka'ako?

Anyone have access to a larger rec facility or any other suggestions ?

Oops...that's the one I made it to, not Chris'.......definitely a fun night!

I'm down for another one and will help out anyway I can, def like the name tag idea and the byob/potluck action!

As for the location, a public place would be good....not sure where though. Kakaako is cool when it's nice out....no power without generator and it's a small hike to pack everything in but there are picnic tables, bathrooms and a killa view there! Don't know much about Rainbow Marina but it sounds cool.

So I am taking this as it's time to do another 2A BBQ eh?

Please PM me if you have available space for rent (HOA, CLUB house) etc. at Chris@TheHDF.org with subject 2A BBQ.

This will let me know what resources I am working with. Please include your name and phone number as well =).

White Plains Beach could be cool too?  :D   Same deal lots of parking, has grassy area, covered tables.  I don't know about running power or permitting etc.  I can bring extra body boards for the kids to play with (Lifeguards on duty safe beach).

White Plains is a cool spot, but it would be a no-go for a guy like me coming from Nalo!  :(

Somewhere a lil more central would be ideal!!

That's an interesting idea, maybe like an adult version of "show & tell" with option to barter and/or trade.

What about location, does anybody have any info on the Pearl Harbor location? That sounded like a pretty cool spot.

Rainbow Marina probably out unless somebody got the juice, drats.

Rainbow Marina needs  to be reserved and rented out.  The pavilion area is $350 fits hundreds of ppl.  Not an option.  There was another area that I am not to familiar with in the same vacinity near Cabanas restauant for $75 and fits about 40 ppl...  Going into this I didn't know you had to pay to use these areas  :grrr:

Just a thought.  Depending on the number of people, there are meeting rooms at various restaurants (Tony Roma's, Bravo's, etc.).  Would reduce the amount of work/prep time needed for a pot luck, and the money spent on a venue rental could go towards food & drink.

For what it's worth!

We could also go to Montereys by Pearlridge mall.  They got a balcony with tables & chairs over looking the water crest farm,  its still part of the bar but outside so if there's a band playing it won't be too loud...drinks & pupus are pretty reasonable I think compared to the buy me drinky ones I go to.

ImKu - Thanks for looking into it!  Yah, that's a bit of juice alright.  Maybe when we get bigger / have joint club participation some day.

The bar option seems to be leading.  Monterey Canning sounds good to me NoScade!  Parking, bar, food, the lanai, kumus and pupus, live music even.  heck if the S.O. no like go they can shop the mall in the meantime  :D  Plus nothing says we can't have rotating regional O'ahu G2Gs in each quadrant of the island or whatever.  Also this doesn't have to be a big deal affair, just call the date / time / place and go hang out.

Can we start, half the year going by soon!  I got something for donation / fund raiser on behalf of 2aHawaii & HDF to help build the warchest.

I agree, NoScade & Aiea78....the bar idea sounds good....keep it mellow until we can rally more people!!  ;D

Monterey Canning is cool, somebody mentioned D&B's before which would be great for central location, plus you could even bring the S.O.'s & kids. I go to Home Bar a lot and they have KILLA GRINDZ and great staff plus plenty tv's for sports & fights....not so good for family though.

I guess now we just have to get a date and get together!!

Edit: Sure, as long if its not when I'm working, I might come.

If not, I would be totally down for a meeting of all of the gun people on the Big Island.

Probably have to be on the weekend. Locals being what we are, I think having something formal would be impractical.  Probably need some rules, like "if you come, you can only drink if you contribute," and "wear more than a speedo".

http://www.fcnavyhawaii.com/community-centers/ (http://www.fcnavyhawaii.com/community-centers/)

click on one of the locations for the amenities.

stangzilla - sweet!  Ford Island would be too cool if could, also makes it very private.  McGrew point my friend used to live down there before all that when it was a rickety old camp.  So would be interesting to see it now.  I will kick in for any deposit or fees and sure others would too.  Door "donation" or whatever!

I always dreamed that place would be a perfect restaurant/bar and range over the watercress farm. The line would be the balcony.
Anything solid?

may get there early, but can't stay too late.
maybe enough for 1 bourbon, 1 scotch, and 1 beer.
that should take about 5 minutes.

Sweet!  SpeedTek - want to take the lead and make that the June Pau Hana?  :)

Then we got May & June (central) and July (town) going.  Let's hear from all over the island and neighbor islands too!

How about an offishul forum calendar too?  Shared Google calendar?  Dovetail with HDF?

Shoot man, no can on Wednesday, 05/22/13.
My suggestion is maybe Sidestreet Inn or D&B Rooftop Bar, Friday, July 5, 2013, 6:45 - whenevas (unless they already have some pre-scheduled event up at the Rooftop Bar at D&B on that date)?
That's too bad but no worries...next time for sure!!

I'm thinking about going early just to beat the traffic.  Leaving Diamond Head at 5pm, it'll take an hour or more to get there.  If only there were a gun store in the area, I could head over even earlier and make productive use of the time...

Yesterday at the Pau Hana the question was asked by Pizzo, “what is our favorite firearm that we possess, with no reason or factors, other than it’s our favorite.” With no time to really ponder it, we went around the table and we had all kinds of different and interesting answers. Many of us were torn between more than one but we had to choose one on the spot.

This is my WWI P08 Luger that I said was my favorite, so only fitting to follow up with pics and a little background. BTW Dex, this is the Luger I mentioned to you while talking story about German firearms. The condition is about as good as a P08 gets. Purchased decades ago for $72.80 (still have the bill of sales) and that included the matching WWI 1917 holster and P08 Take Down Tool. I purchased it at a local Mom & Pop’s Sporting Goods store in Michigan.

WWI 1917 Deutsche Waffen und Munitionsfabriken (D.W.M.) P08 German Luger. All serialized parts match including the mag, which has the full serial number.

I know a great deal about it and have had people considered experts in that field look it over and verify everything as well, but no official authentication paperwork, but I never plan on selling it anyway. That's one I'll pass down to one of my boys.

Yah ribs $$$ so we should do pre-pay / fund raiser?  Maybe adopt a (non political) charity too?
first that is a nice piece of history. Secondly as far as ribs go maybe we can do a preorder so I know how much to make or even me a macsak can make some for a little varience to show case his skills as well.

Bunker,

No wonder that's your favorite. That's a freakin' epic firearm. Now I feel inadequate with my XD9SC response.  :'(  ( even though I friggin' love that gun )

RIBS !  Let's do it. How you gonna set up the pre-pay ?

sorry guys, i only mention the $$$ as an aside
i certainly don't expect people to pay for ribs
if we make it a potluck, and everyone brings something, it's all good

i did cook ribs and chicken this weekend, and i found that costco now sells st louis cut ribs and they are .50 a pound cheaper than baby backs
they came out pretty good, so i think that's a better option in the future

Hahahahaha.....you guys are crackin me up!!

I think I may have an idea, let me know what you guys think!

We could do it where each person can either bring food or $20, then we pool the cash and split it between all the people that brought food.

Of course this would mean that each person that brings food would either need to bring a full entree or multiple sides to make it fair. The only thing that would be a problem is if everybody just brought cash....then we'd have to order pizza...lol, but I don't think that would happen.

Alright guys so when we doing this tell you guys $8.00 bucks per person ill provide all the food just byob or buy your sodas. Does that sound like something good. As for ribs first come gets whats made limited on ribs. But as for the wings I got that for all. Or individual can order of menu at their own cost as a option.

I don't think anyone has come up with a date yet so it's a start.

Let's start the bid at 06/15 Saturday.
Looking back in the thread, looks like dirtylickins is the location, so date has to be ok with him.
& macsak, because apparently they're Iron Chefing it, with ribs being the main ingredient.

Anyone know how to make polls?  I suggest creating a poll and voting for the days you'd rather it NOT be.  We then choose from the days that received no votes.

umm
i think it's up to the host/cook what day he can be ready
and then it's up to us to show up and pay
the thing i'm worried about is that people need to commit and show up since mr lickens is gonna cook all the food
that's why a bar or potluck is better in my mind
not that i don't appreciate dirtyl's offer
and i will definitely go if i'm free
at a bar we just run tabs for drinks/pupus individually
or a potluck gets more food/drinks as more people show up

I don't think anyone has come up with a date yet so it's a start.

  • 06/09 Sunday
  • 06/10 Monday
  • 06/11 Tuesday
  • 06/12 Wednesday
  • 06/13 Thursday
  • 06/14 Friday
  • 06/15 Saturday

  • 06/23 Sunday
  • 06/24 Monday
  • 06/25 Tuesday
  • 06/26 Wednesday
  • 06/27 Thursday
  • 06/28 Friday

Well folks im keeping a staff on to continually service our get together so everyone will have food as they show up so thats not a problem and like i stated they are also welcome to order individually if so desired or bring a dish if they want to as well and not pay to eat to be fair. As for drinks bring your own beer wine liquor so this should be more like a potluck slash dont worrie if you cant cook just pay 8 bucks kinda get together. As for days sunday and mondays are good so i can shut the place down just for us but if enough people attend i can do it any night i guess. So the only tab you gotta run is in your cooler ... well thats my input let me know if that works if not im still down to show up anywhere else with my ribs in hand.

I actually wouldn't disagree with you, and once this Pau Hana is out of it's infancy, I hope it can be set up as such. So and so day every month. Hopefully someone more official can declare a certain date!

I'd like to suggest the 2nd Friday of each month.  Avoids most annual holidays, incorporates "2ND" (as in 2A), and is sort of like First Friday ...

Ooo I like the 2nd week idea.

Friday might be harder than the other more neutral days (going out with the family?)

What about a poll of which day of the week people CANNOT go?  Then we pick the day of the week with the least NOs.

Hows this idea since no one can make up there minds and not everyone schedule may accommodate certain days. Starting from the next one next month start on a Monday , then following month Tuesday, following month Wednesday then so on and so on then when it hits Friday the next one we start back on Monday. For those unfortunate to have set schedules during the week it will atleast give them an opp to show up every so often. And for those who are flexible we'll be able to always attend. That will cut the BS of which day is better . Doing it this way would have a equal playing field for everybody. Might seems confusing but actually not,

hmm
good idea
wed last month
monday this month
then tues, thurs, fri the next three (or some combination of those)
by then we should have a better idea of #s and best/worst days

I like the idea of rotating days. That way we can meet the most variety of people and eventually accomodate everyone's schedule.
