I was gonna go thru the hassle of buying another handgun, a nice little M&P 22 but I went to 3 shops and no one had any .22lr so I figured what's the use of a gun without ammo so I passed. Meh, I guess I'll keep shooting my shotgun until ammo comes back in to stock for handguns.

I'm sure the shop you purchase from would be willing to sell you a few boxes to at least get you started.

assuming they had any ammo.

Possibly, but I've heard stories like such on the mainland.
Also if I was a shop owner I would do the same, if not I wouldn't be making sales, as we can see from this example.

I'm guessing we'll see stock returning this summer - after the current legislative hoohah settles and everyone realizes, no matter which way the law goes, that we still have guns. ammo, and freedom and don't need to stock up on everything as if we are facing down the last days on Earth.

Dude, there is a demand, a HUGE demand, for a product. And the one thing that motivates industry is money. This deficit of ammo simply cannot last. If current companies can't tool up to meed demand, new companies will jump into the fray. Laws be damned, the $$$ is almighty, and the industry will find ways to exploit our panic.
So buy the gun. Hell, use the current shortage as a bargaining chip to get the price down. Then sit back and wait.

+1
I agree, the current ammo demand in temporary and surely wouldn't stop me from buying a gun.

Just talking about this pistol tonight. What shops have these in stock?

Buy the gun.
I guarantee you that if you posted a WTB 22lr ammo thread on 2a, you'd get a few guys willing to part with a few hundred rounds for a nominal price.

all the shops didn't have any ammo. I figure that its a waste of time to buy a gun and have to go to hpd 3 times just to end up with a gun without ammo. Perhaps later if ammo ever comes back I'll buy the gun as well as a few others (so I don't gotta keep wasting my time waiting inline).
