What do you all think about Midway USA now refusing to ship via USPS to Hawaii? I for one am very disappointed. Now even a small order will cost twice as much to ship via UPS.
My last order it cost me ~$23 to ship a bag of patches and a muzzle protector.
I wrote to customer service and inquired on why they removed USPS from the options. They just said that they will only be using UPS from now and USPS can not be used. Very sad for us here; very sad that they will not budge on this... :(

I think it will hurt business. My last few orders went somewhere else because the shipping was too much. I liked the fast cheap shipping they used to have. Sorry, but bottom line is the cheaper it gets here the better!
-
really? I have had 3 pmags on backorder since dec but am thinking I should cancel and just go ahead and pick them up locally because the cost of shipping is that of one mag.
Did you get an email or something?
-
My last order with them was a year ago. Not a big loss in my opinion.
They lost out on many orders from me due to their shipping and return policies.
-
when are they going to stop shipping usps to Hawaii?

Did you get an email or something?
When I placed the order it automatically picked UPS. I tried to contact them to switch it to USPS. This is the reply I received.
Thank you for your recent email concerning your latest order with MidwayUSA. I apologize, but your order has already shipped, and I am unable to change the shipping method on that order. Since we strive for same-day shipping, this leaves a very small window of time for us to make changes to your orders.
When customers place orders online, they have the option of choosing the shipping methods available based on the products purchased. Our shipping page will always default to the least expensive shipping method, but you are more than welcome to change this option to one you prefer.
I noted that the cart automatically defaulted UPS and requested, in the future USPS. Next reply was.
Thank you for your recent email concerning postage, handling and insurance. MidwayUSA's "Fair & Honest" method of calculating Postage, Handling and Insurance allows Customers to only pay the costs associated with getting their order from MidwayUSA to their door. These charges are calculated based on the destination, method of shipment, number of packages, weight and dimensions of packages, and packing material and labor.
Unfortunately, we no longer offer services through USPS only. All services are starting our UPS and ones to Hawaii and Alaska are those that have the final delivery made by USPS. I apologize for the inconvenience.
I then informed them that this is unacceptable for me and that the overpayment for shipping will cause me to take my business elsewhere. I guess they don't really care about that..
Thank you for your email regarding our shipping methods. I apologize that our shipping methods do not work for your shipping address. We have not done away completely with USPS. We just are not offering as many packages to be shipped this method. We do offer the partnership methods of UPS Mail Innovations and UPS Sure Post in which the USPS does make the final delivery.
We are sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused and look forward to doing business with you in the future.

You know, I'm not sure what's going on, but I just placed an order last week and noticed that USPS is no longer an option as well.
They did, however, have something called UPS Mail Innovations and though it was not clear, it seemed to say that USPS would be used in final delivery. The price was very reasonable, similar to shipping USPS.
I am hoping that this is a new shipping option offering by UPS which seems to outsource delivery to USPS and that it will start showing up as an option on some of those sites that still do ship only UPS.
Dont know how long this has been around but here's what UPS says about its Mail Innovations. http://www.upsmailinnovations.com/services/domestic_mail.html (http://www.upsmailinnovations.com/services/domestic_mail.html)
Bottom line was that the shipping price was not expensive like UPS Ground.
-
This is very sad for me because of their support of gun rights and the NRA, however, If they won't budge on this issue, I cannot see ordering stuff from them anymore. I can just donate to the NRA on my own.
-
Crap. Just read this: http://www.upsmailinnovations.com/services/qualified.html (http://www.upsmailinnovations.com/services/qualified.html)
UPS Mail Innovations only works for things under 1lbs. What I was ordering was going to be under so I guess that's why the shipping price was still cheap.
Looks like we will SOL for heavier things.

My last 2 purchases from them shipped UPS Mail Inn. They both acutally came out cheaper than USPS Priority would've cost, but they both took a couple days longer than Priority normally does. Both were medium/small items, so I don't know if that makes a difference. I am really impressed with how fast Priority Mail arrives, especially for the cost, but if I don't need it in 3-5 days, UPS MI is okay too.
-
Really? When did Midway start that?
I got my order in a couple days ago and it was by USPS First Class Air mail. It was for a 1911 barrel and some other small parts. Cost for shipping was under $5.00
Earlier in the month I ordered 2 Larger rifle mags. Shipping was by USPS first class package too but for $15. - They could of stuck the mags in the Priority Air mail flat rate envelope for $5.80.
I know that you have to be careful when you order from Midway. Check their shipping estimator before you go ahead with your order otherwise you will get a rude surprise. There is one option that has a private carrier(?) for part of the way and then it goes by USPS. I guess thats for smaller stuff.
On one order I did, I deleted a item because it added $34.00 for a $12 surplus vest. I guess it was coming in from another warehouse or added too much bulk.
Again, they could of used the medium sized flat rate box( cost around $12) for the order I wanted.
This was online so it might be a little different speaking to a actual person on the phone.
If they did change their policy on shipping for the larger /heavier items then they are missing out on customers.
As for returns and refund/credits? I had no problems when I got cracked, dented magazines. Even some mags that got lost because of a tear in their packaging. I notified them by giving them a call, sent back the items and got refunds.
Other companies have good/great prices on their pruducts but they also charge you quite a bit on shipping too.
NRA training dept is a example. They make a killing on the shipping and handlling on their packets. NRA instructors know this.
Shop around.
-
I just ordered 2 mags and shipping was only 5.40 vis UPS. That was my first and only order from them though
I usually get stuff from brownells
*edit
it was UPS MI
-
+1 on Brownells. I just backordered a bunch of reloading components from them. And I received a quantity discount that made the price less than my usual online order place (Powder Valley). The point is shipping is $13.95 flat rate and they let me back order.
-
While shopping for things I noticed they weren't using USPS anymore. Shipping was more expensive than I remember so I looked elsewhere. Used to be you could start with one item and keep adding items until the box was full....the USPS charges were flat rate so it was very reasonable. Now, It starts out high and doesn't stay the same as you add more items. I have been purchasing elsewhere because of this. And it is a shame because of the donations they were making to NRA will now suffer because of their policy.
-
Bummer........they had some really good prices. Add in ups cost and prices with shipping not so good anymore .
-
Yea bummers, most cases, usps was much cheaper than other options. I wont order as much as i did in the past.
-
Just ordered a couple of magazines from Midway earlier this week. The shipping menu defaulted to UPS. But the cheapest choice was UPS Mail Innovations "delivered by USPS". That is apparently a partnership where UPS does the labeling and pickup, and most of the transportation, then UPS turns over the package to the USPS for final delivery.
Shipping for the two mags is $4.52. Cheaper than full UPS.
-
<----- Confused.
I ~just~ checked the site and an order I was putting together (2 sets of loading dies) did have USPS flat rate shipping options. I didn't pull the trigger and buy it, but right up to the payment page it retained the flat rate shipping option.
-
^ same here, flat rates for small and medium sized items. As well as ups mail innovations aka USPS delivery. If you want large items and free shipping Amazon is the place to go.
-
i just bought 2 ar stoner 30rd mags from midway for $34 shipped. shipping was only 5$. is there something i dont know about? it was UPS too.

The order no longer defaulted to USPS flat rate, but to UPS 2nd day air. However, I was able to edit the shipping method (only at the order screen) to USPS. ???
-
They starting to sound like ctd
-
Ordered some stuff earlier today and it allowed me to pick USPS Flat rate large.
-
I think it's called ups sure post or something. The lady at the post office said a lot of companies are using it. She's mentioned amazon and some other big names but basically it's ups to a certain point (west coast) then USPS.

Opted to cancel my mag order...well the gen 3's at least and just got a gen 2 shipped for I think $4.50.
I did not see a usps method however.

Was UPS mail innovations an option?
-
Just ordered earlier in the week. If less than 1lb.....UPS innovation with USPS for final delivery option pops up. I think if package is more than 1lb...UPS maybe only option. Not sure though
-
It's been my experience ordering non-firearm related stuff that shipping via USPS is the exception to the rule. That's why I'm always pleasantly surprised whenever a company offers to ship something via USPS. From what the companies tell me, USPS services don't meet their needs. USPS doesn't provide satisfactory tracking information and they don't offer pickups.
-
Similar experience here. All orders now default UPS with no option to use USPS. I did see a USPS option when I put 1000 bullets in my cart last week but it was still more expensive than I remember. I couldn't find the USPS option today when I purchase 2000 bulk 9mm bullets. Confused but safe to say USPS is going away at Midway.
Too bad Amazon doesn't sell bullets and brass. ::)
-
I haven't order from Midway in weeks, because Amazon has the same stuff and the shipping is way cheaper.
-
Was UPS mail innovations an option?
Yep just looked and it is. Weird, I wish more people would learn the idea behind a 'flat rate' box.

I like Brownells better than Midway anyways...

Just finalized the order I was considering earlier. While it defaulted to UPS shipping I had the option to do Medium Flat rate. Also had the options for Large Flat Rate and Priority Mail.
As far as I can tell that's the same USPS shipping options as usual.

How much was the USPS charge? I didn't get that option at all. They wanted $40+ to ship what could have fit in a med box.
-
???I am so confused...but happy,
I went to Midway and placed the same order as a test and amazingly, the USPS option has returned. I can't explain it. I am 100% certain the option wasn't there late last week. Maybe Midway got enough complaints that they restored the option? Or maybe it was a computer glitch.
-

Med flat rate was 17.50ish.
I wonder if it isn't a size/bulk issue. I'm pretty sure they items I ordered could have happily fit in a small flat rate box but that option isn't available. I've ordered shot wads from them before and had to order far fewer than I wanted because the USPS flat rate shipping options didn't appear for the larger orders.

Thats what I remember, you used to be able to keep adding items until the box was full and the price of the shipping didn't change. Now, I only see UPS or some hybrid UPS service that starts well above $17.50. It used to be a no-brainer, but now you really have to shop around. I wish they hadn't changed!
-
Shipping is getting crazy... Believe it or not, Cheaperthandirt was the cheapest for a flashlight combo and some mags for my MKA1919. The items would ship from seperate warhouses so I would have paid 2 shipping charges and the shipping for the mags was over half the price of the mag itself.... time to send to a friend on the mainland and then sent to me....
-
I believe, like how someone else mentioned, yiu cannot track or confirm with flat rate boxes
-

You can track them at no charge I believe and you can get confirmation for a small charge. Average 3 days from mainland to here.
-
Flat rate boxes have free delivery confirmation.
-
oh neat never knew that
-
Well Mags are here (in Hawaii) were sent out Friday with UPS Innovations...I assume they will be delivered tomorrow. Pretty quick!
-
Flat rate boxes have free delivery confirmation.
That's right. I think it goes something like "left package with short filipino with earrings" :geekdanc:
-
Flat rate boxes have free delivery confirmation.
True Flat rate now comes with free tracking #s. another thing is if your shipping something thats heavy but small. If you can fit that box in a flat rate envelope even though the sides are bulging but can close the envelope it will ship for the price of that flat rate envelope. I fit a box about the size of 8Lx4Wx3H and paid under $7.00. :geekdanc:

Lol so it's last location was in Honolulu since Monday..Service is terrible.

I had that problem with the new shipping method from another store. It's seems that once ups turns it over, there's no real way of finding out what's up. If there is Lmk.
