HRA Shooting Sports Fair Saturday June 15 & Sunday June 16 (Father's Day Weekend)
I know this is a little early but I would love to see everyone from this forum come on down so you can try shoot just about any kine gun you want. Last year we had all brands and types of .22's, 1911's, Revolvers, Kris, Thompson "Tommy Gun", Uzi, Shotguns shooting at clay birds, along with AR's, AK's and numerous military rifles and we almost had a machine gun or two but couldn't get them going (Semi Auto Only). We had everything from .22 to 9mm to 5.45 to .45 to .357 Magnum to .44 Magnum and .50AE for pistols and .223 to .308/.30-06/7.62 to whatever is available. Probably the two most popular guns were the AR's/AK's and the .44 Magnum Revolver and the Desert Eagles in .44 Mag and .50 AE.
If there is a particular type of gun you want to try before you buy this is the perfect way to do it.
Some of my best memories were of the wife and kids taking Dad out for the day and buying him a bunch of script and let him go shoot whatever his heart desired. Also, watching these 4 foot something women shooting the .50 Desert Eagle. We always had someone standing behind them to catch them!
-
thanks for the heads up. More then enough time to pencil it in!!!
-
Definitely..good looking out! Is this held at Koko Head or somewhere else?

It's held at Kokohead in Action Bay #1. The main tent to buy script and view other vendors is on the grass across from the restrooms. There are other groups/clubs/members at various places around the Kokohead Complex. For instance the Rhatt Rhatt Boys have a tent next to the HRA and the Skeet Shooting Club is over in their Action Bay and the Black powder Shooters have a bench or two at the rifle range.

^^^^Yes...I'll be there!^^^^
-
It's a great day for the whole family to come out and have some fun! :shaka:
-
ive been looking forward to this all year. thanks for the info!
last year was a lot of fun. hope they add a few more guns and tables this year, i guarantee there will be a huge increase in attendance if the gun registration spike/last gun show is any indication.

Definitely! I was assigned to the 22 rifle section last year and it was awesome, especially on Father's Day when Dads were able to bring their sons and daughters out to shoot. There were even a few sets of grandfather, father and sons shooting together. It really is a fun event. I had a great time volunteering for the first time last year and looking forward to volunteering again this year!

We could always use safe and dependable volunteers.
-
How do you volunteer for this?
-
How do you volunteer for this?
If you are a member of the HRA I believe the call for volunteers will go out through the newsletter and/or e-mail. If you are not a member you should join.
-

You going to be there with your family again this year? I think Cliff might have me help him RSO the HRA booths.
How do you volunteer for this?
Depending on which group you want to volunteer for as there are lots of organizations that have booths, displays, etc at the SSF. I volunteer with HRA and you can contact them through contact info on the website. I'd try to get in touch with either Harvey or Bill.

You can also email Daniel from KGS through his website.
We really do need all the help we can get. If you can't get in touch with any of those people, feel free to PM me and I can help with the details as the event gets closer.
-
I'll definitely be there, as a volunteer. Even though I don't know crap about guns.

-
What are the prices for the scripts??? And times?
I think its $1 per script and the amount of scripts per cartridge will depend on the caliber. Times were adjusted this year, I'll get back to you on that for the official time.

Saturday June 15 10:00am - 4:00pm

Not sure about the scrip, since I've been a volunteer helping with the SSF. I want to say that they were something like $1 per scrip and it varied depending what activity you chose or what you wanted to shoot.
I don't know what the plan is for this year, but the only food available was a Nicky's lunch wagon. No food booths as part of the SSF, at least in previous years.
-

Script is a $1 per ticket. And then the amount of script needed to shoot something depends on what sort of ammo it takes. For instance I think the Desert Eagle last year was 3 or 5 tickets per shot for the 50AE and was something like 5 tickets for 3 shots of the .44 Mag. It varies with the size and amount of the ammo you are shooting.
-
Mahalo for the info :shaka: are there going to be food booths??

Mahalo for the info :shaka: are there going to be food booths??
There is a Nicky's Drive Inn food truck. The Yellow ones. And last time he ran out of food at 1pm on sat. So we starved. Sunday he ran out of food at 130pm. Only had chili left. Buy luckily someone got me food before he ran out.
-
Nicky's sucks. I used to get stuff from them back when the Hawaii Convention Center was being built.
-
is the fair taking up the entire range or just the action bays?
-

In previous years, DLNR took up a few benches on the rifle range. All of the action bays were taken up. However, it is my understanding that the cowboy action guys won't be participating, so HRA will be picking up that "genre".

They up and down. Depends on who cooks.
-
Looking forward to this year! Saw an ad for it in the paper a few days ago. This fair is great for those who want to try out shooting, or for those who want to test fire some guns they're interested in.
-
First time I'm not going to be helping out. I hope it all goes well and everyone has fun and stay safe. I may go just to check it out though.

It's good fun! If you are one of those loading mags, definitely use the magazine loaders they bring. It'll keep your thumbs from cramping, especially if there's as many people as there were last time.

What do you help out with?
-
What do you help out with?
Last time I helped as an instructor. I'm hoping to split it between that and loading magazines this next fair.
-
EVERYONE VOLUNTEERING:
Last time, I wrote "2A Hawaii's hnl.flyboy" in small print on my nametag. I suggest we all do that in small inconspicuous print so we can recognize each other, unless someone with a lot of 2aH stickers can bring some to stick near our nametags or hats.
-
I've missed it the past two years and I'm looking forward to attending with my gf! Indeed, this will be a precursor to a rifle purchase very soon ;D
-
why small, inconspicuous print?
my tag would say
HI! my names is
steve/macsak

The 22 side was super fun last year. I'll be there both days this year, but not sure where they'll have me. So far I volunteered to RSO, but I wouldn't mind helping with the 22s again.
Good idea on the name tags or stickers.

We better see you and your family out at the SSF! Sounds like there will be lots of fun stuff to shoot.
-
I volunteered for both days as well. Last year all I did was load mags both days. I was working the pistol line. I may RSO if they want me to. I just told them to put me where they needed me the most.
Hopefully, I'll work the food line this year! ;D ;D ;D
-
I plan on going down Saturday with the wife and probably visiting family. Looking forward to shooting some new guns :D
-
note:
i last went 2 or 3 years ago and it was croded
and i have heard that it gets more crowded each year
plan accordingly

Hopefully it wont be to bad first thing in the morning, which is when I plan on going. Is Sunday usually better than Saturday?
-
I can go Sunday, but im scared they wont have as much as saturday, or run out of ammo :shake:

I would say Saturday would be the best.
-
oh
forgot about that
the ammo is donated, so who knows how much supply they will have
even if they used hra funds to buy, it would be more expensive and in lower supply like it has since the election/sandy hook

it has been difficult to get ammo with everything going on, we hope to have enough for both days.
-
So are we NOT allowed to bring our own guns and ammo to shoot? Just curious!
-
So are we NOT allowed to bring our own guns and ammo to shoot? Just curious!
The pistol range, silhouette range and most of the rifle range will be open as usual so you can come and shoot as you normally would. You cannot bring your own gun to shoot in the areas where the fair is taking place such as the action bays and the portion of the rifle range set aside for the fair. Just realize the parking will be terrible both days. It does get crowded during the fair.
-
I think I will show up early and shoot my Glock all day!
-
Looks like I've been assigned to RSO on the HRA tents, probably in the action bay, so probably won't have much time to socialize. However, it would be great if members here who are volunteering or just coming by to shoot some guns to have 2AHawaii stickers or identify themselves on their name tags. I'll try to remember to put something on my name tag.

Well, you did suffer a simulated heart attack yesterday. :(
-

I had friends in town, so I left after the stop at Honolulu Firearms.
Besides, I was getting tired of ducking and bobbing & weaving to avoid getting flagged in the lobby area and waiting area for the range at Honolulu Firearms. >:(

My insurance didn't cover the incident.

I say we each wear our official 2AHawaii hat with our usernames written conspicuously on it to easily distinguish us in the crowd.
;D

Anyone going to have a Ruger SR9 pistol to try???
-
I'm stuck in the Firearms Dealer Tent.....Come by and say HI!
-
Anyone going to have a Ruger SR9 pistol to try???
Most of the guns are brought by one person. So it depends on what he brings. Some of the more specialty guns are brought by other volunteers. I did not see a Ruger SR9 last year. So I would guess there won't be one there this year either. But no one will know for sure until this morning when we get there.
-
What time open tomorrow?
-
10:00AM today.
Me and Inspector have our nametags notated!

Thanks for the reply. Still looking forward to it but always crossing my fingers that I can try before I special order one. :shaka:

:Shaka: Thanks for helping me and my wife try out those specialty firearms today! I am very impressed with the Kriss V!
Good seeing you too Inspector.
I think I saw Pit808 at the top shot booth. He had Pit808 on the back of his cap.

I forgot to do that. My name tag kept falling off anyways and ended up throwing it away in the early afternoon.

That was a long day...depressed when i seen the rifle benches empty.......I wanted to take my gun up there but I have no ammo for it!

I caught that. Nice to meet you. Thanks for the kriss v volly... I guess not the same as a full auto. :(

Got there yesterday and had a blast (literally). Had a chance to shoot the SCAR, FN F2000 and FAL. The handguard on the FAL was so hot, my mit was cooking as I quickly went through four rounds. Will try to make it again today. Thanks to all for making this event possible. :shaka:
-
Wanted to thank the NRA instructors today. Most didn't get to take a break and ate their hotdogs between shooters. Mahalo and hats off to you all.
-
what a blast! today was awesome besides the sun. lol. big thanks to all the organizers and volunteers who made this happen. shot my first ak and loved it. time to go shopping :geekdanc:
