Title: Ohio Police Officers Involved In Shoot Out: Suspect Armed with AK-47
Post by: Bunker on May 04, 2013, 11:10:01 AM
"MIDDLEFIELD, Ohio (KABC) -- A routine traffic stop in Middlefield, Ohio turned into a life or death shootout between police and a suspect armed with an AK-47. The dramatic gun battle was caught on tape.

The dash-cam video shows the driver swinging his door open and firing numerous rounds at police with an AK-47. The bullets pierced the squad car's windshield.

The gunman is then heard screaming "Kill me! Kill me!"

Officers returned fire, killing the suspect.

One of the officers was shot in the hand and the other was hit in the leg.

It's unclear why the man opened fire but police found numerous weapons and explosives in the suspect's car."

All I can say is Holy F! Thank goodness that SoB has watched too many movies and was shooting from the hip, shooting like that probably saved the lives of those two cops.

Gotto believe the left will be use this to bolster their argument for an AWB. I bet this rifle and whatever else he had were not obtained legally. Good news is they killed the sorry ass.

another positive is that he probably was using "high capacity" magazines and didn't kill anybody, proving "high capacity" magazines don't make the weapon more deadly

Was that thing shooting full auto? It appeared to be equipped with a STANDARD magazine. Glad the dude got killed before he went on some rampage further aiding big brother in  trying to take away our gun rights...

I've noticed some "studies" are cited claiming there's a coorelation between certain psycotropic meds and violence (subset by gun violence).  It seems to me they are stating the coorelation is between the meds and the acts, while not looking into the underlying causes for which the meds were prescribed.  It's not like they can stage a "control" , but it seems they are claiming cause and effect vs coorelation.  I would think they should look at the underlying medical or psychological conditions for which these folks were taking the meds, and see if there's more folks with the diagnoses doing violent crimes in the group who is not medicated.  I betcha it's the condition which is related to these acts, and those who are taking medication for these conditions are less likely to do the acts than those who are not receiving medication.  It's not the meds.  It's the illnesses, and those diagnoses and not taking meds are probably more likely to "crazy up using a gun".   I agree this guy may have not been on his meds....which was a factor in leading to his "crazy up".

Wonder why they are just now plastering this all over the major networks and if it's an effort to push the lefts anti-gun agenda. Kinda odd...I don't recall this in March and it's pretty newsworthy when a guy opens up with an AK at police. Could be maybe I just recall it but I don't think so. ???

Almost seems like a suicide.  Sad he couldn't have just jumped in front of a train or something.  From the audio, seems as if the female officer had gotten hit.  The male officer seems to ask, "Are you hit?" and she responds "Yeah."  I think this guy could have saved a lot of people a lot of trouble if he just would have pegged himself.  Chalk one up for the anti-gun crowd here.

Piers Morgan was playing this video on his show and using as further evidence that an assault weapons ban was/is needed.

The fact that he yelled "Kill Me" will not be an issue in the discussion.  They want to use what he did to get rid of the guns.  No discussion about the fact that he decided to go on a suicide mission.

There isn't much info out there other than his name, that he was 42, and the police still have no idea why he went off.

This is the only somewhat informative article I've found. http://www.wkyc.com/news/article/298062/45/Middlefield-shooting-The-secret-life-of-James-Gilkerson (http://www.wkyc.com/news/article/298062/45/Middlefield-shooting-The-secret-life-of-James-Gilkerson)

I did find out that the reason this wasn't as heavily reported on 2 months ago is that the police just released the video to the public, though.
