I bet Piers Morgan gives this story around the clock coverage.

is it ok to shoot would be intruder through the window
before they actually broke in?
-
The police said she had reason to fear for her life, so the shooting is justifiable.

Some places yes, other places maybe no. You need to know the applicable firearms laws in your location.

From what I understand, if you use your weapon for self defense, you will be arrested on the spot no matter what and they will sort it out downtown or in court. Hawaii's interpretation of the phrase "self defense" is quite liberal and they assert their agenda through things like gun laws. Is it important to know the local gun laws? Definitely. Would I pull the trigger inside my home to protect my family without thinking twice? Absolutely.

If she shot first here, I think she would be arrested for attempted murder.

I wonder if it would be justified in Hawaii if they were in the process of breaking the window or would they have to be inside your domicile for it to be justified.

I don't think so.....she maybe able to yell "stop I have a gun and I will shoot" and it may scare them off. I think in hawaii your life really has to be a life or death situation to justify a self defence scenario .

Your number one Option for Personal Security is a lifelong commitment to avoidance, deterrence, and de-escalation.
Avoidance: The police are on the way
Deterrence : I have a gun and I will shoot
De-escalation: Couple of rounds in the floor/ roof. If needed
Just saying
