Haven't gotten the opportunity to shoot either , what's your thought if you shot or own either of them? I know it's best to try it out first but lets be honest, how often can you shoot a gun your thinking of buying LMAO well atleast I dont...

I got the sig 556.
And it's easily my best AR.
-
aloha rook
i have a SIG 556
and don't own any ARs
the SIG is HEAVY
and aftermarket parts are limited, since it is a proprietary system
although there have been significant improvements in the past year, and more to come
but it is nothing even close to the AR platform when it comes to mods
fun to shoot from the bench, supposed to be reliable (think of it as a modernized AK)
easy to clean/maintain
a little tough on brass (ding on ejection, people put a piece of fuzzy velcro to reduce impact)
ejects at 1:30-2:00, so safe for leftys to shoot
if i am ever at the range and you are there, you are welcome to try it out

Good info.. I may be at the range Saturday after next if you plan on going hope to meet you.

I've read that the ruger has issues with the pistons violent powerful blowback cycle cracking recivers. Ruger is aware of the issue and will fix it but I'm not ready to dive into a piston ar just yet other than pws

pws would be my choice for piston ARs too, but there have also been problems with those too
think of the SIG as an AK rather than an AR and you will get a better idea of how the system works
if you see a parts diagram or pictures of the bolt, etc you will clearly see what i am saying

As you can see in my name "rookie" lmao, so should i consider looking into AKs also?
-
you'd have to ask someone that owns an AK
i only own the SIG556
no AKs nor ARs
some people consider the SIG 556 the best of both worlds- AK reliability and looks/rails like an AR
other people consider it to be a master of none, especially since it lacks a large aftermarket and is heavy
here is the main SIG 556 board:

In all honesty I was just a swipe(debit) away from getting a ruger till one of the salesmen came and said he prefers the sig over the ruger any day so i didn't buy neither of it and walked out with a bullpup instead. But a new AR is still on my mind,

If you are still looking into the AR platform, you should really ask yourself: what exactly do I want to do with this?
Once you find its purpose you will find it easier to say which AR you want to go with. Are you looking for something to plink with, home defense, hunting, long range shooting, target shooting, or a battle type rifle? Do you know what type of ammo grain you plan on using(example: 55gr or 75gr)? What barrel twist rate are you looking to get? Barrel length and type of barrel? OR do you want an AK? I'm sure that if you answer these types of questions you will find a lot of recommendations from other forum members. If you don't rush your decision I'm sure you'll get something that your happy with.

My bad, but your responses and offering is greatly appreciated n if one day we do meet at the range i wouldn't mind shooting that sig 556. Aloha

I have not shot a ruger556, but have a sig m400 (sigs DI ar15) and my cousin has a sig 516 both rifle shoot great and are reliable. I have probably shot close to 3000 rounds out of my m400 with no problems and have had no problems while shooting the sig 516 either. Both have great accuracy the 516 is heavier then the m400 because of the railed front handguard and a lot more expensive too because its a piston operated ar. You can't go wrong with a sig..

keep on the lookout if noscade and dirtylickens have another range day
i'll be sure to show up then
i mostly go to the range on thursday (my day off) and then usually near the end of the day since i would rather not wait for a bench
i live on the east side, so it's convenient for me to go late in the day since i don't have to fight traffic home
My bad, but your responses and offering is greatly appreciated n if one day we do meet at the range i wouldn't mind shooting that sig 556. Aloha

I have a PWS and I swear by it. Best rIfle for the money in my opinion.
The piston system is incredibly reliable and it shoots extremely accurate,
I put it to the test recently and submerged it in water. It performed flawlessly as soon as I picked it up to shoot. :geekdanc:

Tnx for all your info and opinions, greatly appreciate all of it. If anyone got more insight type away cause i haven't made up my mind yet. Aloha the "Rookie"

Went to check out the 556 and 516 piston rifles today, I must say they both feel great in your hands. Lighter then I expected , really leaning towards the 516. Don't know the actual weight but it feels lighter then the ruger and feels more natural at the trigger
-
Nice, someone had both in stock?
