Need to look up the rules for each airline and TSA. United allows a maximum of 11 lbs. Has to be in original packaging or container specifically for ammunition. I think 11 lbs works out to about 400 rounds of 5.56/.223. In my last trip, I took up around 600 rounds of 9 mm. Might have been a little over, but they didn't weight the ammo separately.
Not sure about interisland, but I know friends who have gone to outer islands with their guns and ammo to hunt. Remember that ammo container requirements are usually the same as for firearms, which means lockable case with enough locks to prevent being pried open and locks stay with YOU! Print out the TSA and airline rules as many of the agents don't even know their own rules.

11 lbs. per passenger too I think, that sucks. Going Alaska you get 50 lbs.

Im talking about unaccompanied shipping, not hand carrying as interisland flight luggage.
I have a prospective trade partner here on the foum, he has what I want, I have what he wants... problem is hes on oahu, and im on maui.
Its only 7 boxes maximum of ammo going back and fourth.
Any ideas?
