question is:
which courses do people recommend. ;)
-
if you want to shoot a lot of different guns take the life course, but the affidavit takes about 2 months to arrive....

wow, thats a long time.

Yeah, but most instructors get it out to you sooner. Our turn around time for affidavits is immediate to a couple days.
As far as guns, we structure class so that each students gets a well rounded education in what it means to shoot different actions. That way they can make a good buying decision or validate the choice that they have already made. We use single action, double action, "safe action", rimfire, and revolver (optional for those thinking of a revolver).

Every one of those reviews is from a student of ours - I encourage people to stop by.
Generally speaking, unless there was an issue or you enter your name wrong, permit paperwork is given out at the end of class.
Some of the benefits of our class:
- Low instructor to student ratio (class size is normally eight)
- Variety of guns (Glock, Sig, Smith and Wesson, Charles Daly, Springfield, Walther, Ruger -- in calibers from .22 to .45).
- No just sitting and watching a videos - you pay us to not just instruct, but to actually teach you about shooting.
- You are helping fund legal matters for civil rights violations.
- Vetted Instructor (Works in field, seeks out additional training, regularly teaches material, NRA + Manufacturer instructor certifications)
That said - I would put our class side by side to anyones - without hesitation.

Costa is an amazing instructor; I really enjoyed his courses that I took from him.
My comment mostly relates to people who just stick their students in front of a DVD to learn for class. I don't think that is what you are paying an instructor to do, and it's a disservice to the students.
-
To the OP, there's also Honolulu Firearms and Range.
And a lot of NRA Instructors without shops that can certify.

Do you have a list of NRA instructors that are willing to put their names on the list?

I participated in the L.I.F.E. course back in May 2013. Not worth the wait of 2 months for affidavit. Recommend taking course from somewhere else!!! :'(

took mine from them a year ago, same wait time.
the instructers were great.
but, you think the line at HPD was bad, and their 14 day waiting period, try waiting 2 months for a piece of paper.
thats way too long.

Your stories are quite common.
