.22 lr at 50 yds
Problem may be that they interpret the target as being a human silhouette

maybe i'll replace the gongs with more squarish plates to make it seem less sillhouettey
-
Is that yours? If it is nice set up
-
Or just use one of the two plates at a time
Nice set up
Where did you get it?
And how much?
And really nice use of the word silhouettey

Man I need some steel to shoot at..
-
thats a very nice set-up

Worth the try to bring at Kokohead. Worst thing they'll say is no you can't put out that target. Are you using ar500 metal? Cause I was not able to drill through an ar500 metal plate. Nice looking target though.

What's the problem, Mr. RO? Shooting chimes. Different notes. Bang... ding, bang... dong. Like wind chimes. Get it? Not silhouettey at all. :D
(Have to add "silhouettey" to my spell checker.)

Yeah I don't think the RSOs will like that as is.
-
Set that up on the rifle side and you will get a lot more hits on your target.......even when you are not shooting. haah
-
Why gotta look like a "human silhouette"...?
Why not add a 3rd "box" on the bottom - looking at the frame mount at the top, it looks like it's doable...
Kokohead got something against shooting a target that looks like a snowman? :D
-
Could you guys please enlighten me why silhouette targets are not allowed at Kokohead? Thanks.

i think i would use just the large plate
and i agree that lots of people will be shooting at your target
how much was shipping?

Very nice setup.
I like the other ideas, snowman style; 3 squares or circles hanging from each other. >:D

How about two circles and a rectangle between them?
-
Look at the history of Hawaii's legislature, and you will understand. :shake:
That still doesn't answer my question. At Ukumehame on Maui silhouette targets are allowed. I've got even some bad guy poster targets and no range officers made any issues.
-
That's a cool setup you got there

I believe that the reasoning for this is that they (idiots that run this state) believe that shooting at a silhouette gives people the feeling that you are training to kill someone, but shooting at a circle or square means you're not.
Otay, whudeber you shay mommy.

Lol this. And the rule you cant put targets above each other on the handgun side because it simulates a body and headshot... ??? Lol just shoot below the target and then your real target. what else am I training at the range for haha? And you can stack them on the rifle side though?... ???

I always thought it was because they want people shooting straight and not at all kinds of angles (prevent ricochets?)

Yeah, like more than half the people aren't hitting all around their targets at odd angles anyway!!

lol true

Thanks kingkeoni for the reply to my post. Looks like it's quite strict at Kokohead. :-(

prior to and during WWII, service members initially trained with bull's eye targets. It was later revealed that by doing so, it did not prepare the men for the psychological effects of having to shoot an actual person, which resulted in men literally freezing up or completely going bat shit crazy after firefights.
I can only assume that the state cronies don't want anyone shooting at 'real' targets because they think it will make individuals 'comfortable' with shooting human beings, which give law enforcement the upper hand should some type of armed altercation take place.
If that's the case, it has already been proven by experts that games like COD can psychological condition and prepare an individual to kill far more than shooting at a silhouette can, so the argument that 'shooting at silhouettes makes people more prone to killing other people' is dumb; just like almost every other gun law in Hawaii.
I don't believe it's a matter of conditioning people to shoot another person. I think silhouette training creates an automatic reaction to shoot center of mass. Unless the attacker/enemy wears a bulls eye on his shirt, you need to practice shooting where you would on a live target.
I can see where shooting a silhouette can psychologically create a conditioned response, where you automatically draw and fire without having to stop to think what to do. But, making you more or less inclined to kill another human being? That's something that involves so many variables, I can't imagine the mental programming required to turn someone into a merciless killer if they weren't that way to begin with. Shooting a human-shaped target doesn't cover a fraction of those variables!
