General Discussion / Re: Clarification on magazine limitations

(c)  The manufacture, possession, sale, barter, trade, gift, transfer, or acquisition of detachable ammunition magazines with a capacity in excess of ten rounds which are designed for or capable of use with a pistol is prohibited.  This subsection shall not apply to magazines originally designed to accept more than ten rounds of ammunition which have been modified to accept no more than ten rounds and which are not capable of being readily restored to a capacity of more than ten rounds.

Never heard of a M1 pistol before.

I am doing some research on the rules before moving to Oahu, (It pains me) and I wanted to make sure I am reading iit correctly. If a rifle magazine is capable of being used in a pistol, it is banned if more than ten rounds. If that us the case, all AR, vz58, ruger 10/22, cz scorpion mags can only be 10 rounds since there are pistol versions of the above? If this is the case, the list of less items I can bring is getting bigger.

Also, with recent events nationally, is there any legislation being proposed or voted on that I should be aware of that will either further limit my options of what to bring? Any possible future bans? I already removed a binary trigger from an AR to comply, but now I fear that was pointless if ARs are going to be an issue. Thanks for the info.

This is why I was asking. This is from http://hawaiirifleassociation.org/hawaii-gun-laws/

"Hawaii state law prohibits greater than 10 round detachable pistol magazines (including rifle magazines capable of use in any pistol, such as the AR-15/M16, AK, M1 carbine, H&K carbine, Thompson, and aftermarket Ruger .22 magazines) unless blocked to hold 10 rounds or less and “not readily restorable.”

General Discussion / C&R FFL in Hawaii

Does the permit to purchase and registration process still apply on top of the FFL requirements? I have one and I want to make sure I am in compliance before I move. Thanks

I arrived on the island with two Mosins and a can of surplus 54r that I could get for 26cents per. If you can find it and you’re lucky, it’s 80cents per here. I started to get into reloading then. Plenty of places to buy powders and primers. Everything else I get from mainland.

You are able to have ammo shipped to you? I have been researching and didn't find much in the way of shipping ammo without paying an arm and a leg.

...
What calibers?

7.62x39
7.62.54r
9mm
45 cal
5.56/.223
12 Gauge
303 brit
30-06
7.62x25
32  Auto / 7.65 Browning

I am considering reloading as well so I guess the question can extend to reloading components as well.

Thanks

What is the ammunition market like on island? I hate having to leave behind what I have, but it is what it is.

Oh heck, 3 years will fly by in no time.
I would bring only a few of your favorites and store the rest.
Do you have a favorite activity? Hunting? Action pistol? Etc?

That is what I was thinking of doing. Right now, mainly target shooting. I would like to see about getting into three gun, but I am open to just about anything, I am looking to see about joining a club as well and being involved with the local shooting community.

No, only for three years. It is a military move. I have been there before and I look forward to going back, however last time I did not have firearms.

I will also add I have an %80 1911 build untouched at the moment. Is it safe to say that if I bring it, then build it, I register it within five days of completion? Also, will I still need to acquire a pistol permit for registration? Thanks.

General Discussion / Moving to Oahu This Summer
« on: March 11, 2018, 08:24:52 AM »
Good day,

I am in the process of moving to Oahu and a part of the preparation is determining what I can bring or should leave behind to save on the hassle of the laws and current legislation that is in the works. I want to make sure that I am in compliance with the laws and, based on suggestions, what not to bring due to possible future laws. Here is what I currently have:

VZ-58 Carbine
VZ-58 Compact in pistol form - This one is questionable, however, if I lock a 10 round magazine in it, ie bullet button or grind down the magazine catch to the point where it only retains the magazine, would that work or should I just leave it with a friend to be safe? Fortunately, the VZ-58 takes stripper clips.
VZ-61 Skorpion in pistol form - same as above, however since I can't use stripper clips with the Skorpion, this may be a bust and best to leave with a friend
AR-15 rifle - this one does have an Echo Trigger, however with HB1908 on the horizon, I will more than likely replace the trigger to be safe. Unless you think otherwise. This was an %80 lower so I still need to get it engraved.
Scorpion EVO carbine
Saiga-12 in Kushnapup stock
VZ52/57 Rifle
Enfield Mk4 Rifle
Enfield Jungle Carbine
1903-A3 Rifle
Rossie Ranch Hand Pistol
VEPR 7.62x54r Rifle
M39 Rifle
M44 Carbine
Ruger 10/22 takedown
Cook and Brothers Black Powder Carbine
Navy Colt Black Powder Pistol
FNX-45 Pistol (threaded barrel)
Sig Sauer P226 pistol
Sig Sauer P320 pistol
Sig Sauer Mosquito pistol
Smith and Wesson 1911 pistol
CZ-52 Pistol
Ruger MK3 22/45 pistol (threaded barrel)

I will be replacing my pistol standard capacity magazines with 10 round magazines before moving. Thank you, everyone, for your feedback. Like I said I want to be in compliance as well avoid any potential issues with future legislation that could render the above illegal and subject to confiscation. I know HPD is going to love me when I walk in to register,  :D.

Aloha everyone,

Yes I am 6'10, not I don't play basketball. I am currently in Missouri, however I will be moving to Oahu this summer for work. Me and my wife like to shoot and we do have a few firearms. One thing I will be asking for is help on what I can bring. As those that are on the ground are in tune with the legislation that is occurring in Hawaii, I will want to make sure that I am I'm compliance as well what to avoid bringing in case something becomes banned and I don't want to have something legal become illegal and due to required registration, confiscated. Anyways, I look forward to talking with you all and hopefully, see you on the firing like.
