General Discussion / Re: mandatory firearms placards coming
« on: March 08, 2026, 02:19:09 PM »
https://www.kitv.com/news/hawaii-lawmakers-to-consider-placard-program-for-firearms/article_17426102-d859-4096-9d01-b60205a5a673.html

The signs would be provided by the state and it would be illegal to operate a business without the placard. An organization against gun violence said although people have the right to carry a weapon, that could lead to more tragedies.

"This is about our local culture and we are now bending over backwards for an incredibly small proportion of the population who wants to carry a concealed weapon and wants to be able to do it wherever they want to, whenever they want to," said Chris Marvin, Everytown for Gun Safety. "They want to eat their meals with it. They want to shop with it. Look they can have guns, that's their second amendment right, but let's be responsible with it."

Legislators are expected to introduce more gun-related bills by the Wednesday deadline.

While reading this comment I question what statistics bear if you compare deaths by legal concealed carry permit holders, vs people getting hit by cars because they were looking at cell phones and walking into traffic. A firearm is a tool, just like a phone. Be consistent, Ban all cell phones.

“There’s no property that’s worth anybody getting hurt or losing their life over,” said Hayakawa.

That shouldn't be directed at  property owners, it should be directed at people considering taking someone else's property. My thought is if someone is willing to break the laws of breaking and entering, robbery, and theft, why should I believe they won't break the laws of assault, possibly with deadly force, manslaughter, or murder? With that in mind, I need to protect myself and family. To all politicians, you should be telling criminals not to criminal, not telling law abiding citizens they need to surrender their rights , safety,  property , and possible their life, to the whim of a law breaker.

Great, so now the criminals know that the people they plan to terrorize have been told to give them what they want. I will admit, I've never been in a situation that a criminal has given me a life or death ultimatum, but I'm sure my response will be based on which way I feel the scale it tipping, based on the irrational person who put everyone in that situation.

I never mentioned you in my post.

You're so vain,
You probably think this post is about you.

But doesn't that line in the song prove that the song actually is about him?

Bad advice.  If you feel threatened to the point of aiming a weapon at someone, you should go ahead and pull the trigger while it's aimed at them.

Warning shots have been used by prosecutors to convict victims of assault with a deadly weapon, unlawful discharge of a firearm, etc.  If you didn't fire at the attacker, then your fear didn't rise to the level of being in fear for your life or the life of others.  Purely deductive reasoning, but it's how they can try to get you.

So, it you have to shoot, shoot.  Don't talk -- and don't fire a warning.
I might also add you're responsible for whatever that bullet hits/kills. Your attempt to discourage a criminal could get you manslaughter, or murder. Food for though. NEVER use a firearm for intimidation. That is what criminals do. Use it for defense. If you are just scare them away, waving a gun at them gives them a reason to use deadly force against you.

Who here remembers?

I was a young child back then, but I remember in Washington, what day you could get gas was determined by what number your license plate started with. 3 days a week even, the other 3 days odd. The world used to take sunday off back then.

I see those on busses now too. But aren't you allowed to take your gun on a bus to the range, a gun store, or your home?

You can't stop crazy people from doing crazy things.
Practice situational awareness.
It's not hard to do.

As devastating as the assasinasion is, I can assume it could've just been someone with mental problems.  My frustration comes from the people sick enough to comment things like " couldn't happen to a better person", or " he brought it on himself", or " that's what you get". These are people justifying the murder of someone for no other reason than they have a difference of opinion or that his logic in debate make them  realize your position is indefensible, so they condone, or encourage annihilation of others. Remember Hitler didn't kill 6 million jews by himself. He had people that accepted his views, then justified his views, then participated in the killing. Well there are   far too many people rejoicing at this type of violence. Not far from the participating.  Those are the modern day Brown shirts. I just hope they have come to Jesus moment and realize that it is their hate that is taking us to the inevitable end we are heading to. At that time they will need to consider how many people who own guns, and who will never give them up, disagree with their point of view.

These attacks aren't real complicated, I don't think they require funding. What would it be, $5 for a gallon of gas and a lighter?
From what I have seen they really just seem more like unhinged individuals acting out.

The FBI and ATF both said they haven't found any evidence of coordination.

protesters were paid to be there, and in some cases, busses were provided to take them there

US citizen arrested under suspicion of entering Florida while being an unauthorized alien. When he saw the judge the next morning the judge inspected the birth certificate and social security card and considered them to be authentic. She found no probable cause for the charge but he still ordered the man detained because ICE had an immigration detainer which is a request to hold someone so DHS can take a migrant into custody. He was later released

https://www.cnn.com/2025/04/17/us/lopez-gomez-citizen-detained-ice-florida/index.html

I looked for body camera footage but haven't found any yet. He was held less than 48 hours. Not great but better than those times they deported US citizens

Still better than Hawaii, I guess a cop thought I accelerated up the speed limit too fast(electric car) so he pulled me over. Refused to accept me proof of insurance on the insurance app, then ticketed me for 4 miles over the speed limit. The judge threw out the speeding, then asked if i had proof of insurance. When i presented the insurance on the app, and mentioned that in 2016  Ige required the app to be considered proof of insurance, he said dismissed, yet it is still on my record as driving with no insurance.

Political Discussion / Re: Thoughts on Trump's Tariffs Thread
« on: May 03, 2025, 08:09:33 PM »
Trumps tariffs are proving to be a disaster. I didn't support his tariff plans in the beginning but I figure he deserves the benefit of the doubt, maybe the author of the art of the deal knew what he was talking about and could actually make it work.

But Trump isn't making it work, he is just making a mess. He is making a mess of the markets and international trade, he is pissing off allies, and making impossible and unrealistic promises of jobs returning to America. He isn't on the same page as his administration, flip flops on the purposes of the tariffs, and flip flops on whether there are going to be exemptions. Trump even insulted his own trade agreement from his first term in office.

And to make things worse, his die hard supporters are never going to admit he messed things up because they will always find a different way to point to failure as a success. They will add another dimension to his chess board to justify the damage Trump is causing.

Hope that statement isn't too soft for your liking.

Maybe I'm not a die hard supporter, and I see the current effect of the tariffs. I still support them, and hope the effect turns around sooner rather than later. He wasn't wrong, other countries, have been tacking on tariffs. even our allies. President Trump just wants tariffs to be fair, or beneficial to Americans. Get rid of all tariffs.  Problem solved. In the long run it may be the only time in History where our politicians took actions for us. They may work, they may not. I'm hoping for the best. At least The US isn't just laying on our backs letting the other countries screw us over little by little. My argument is the people trying to say because there isn't skyrocketing success the first day, they are saying how evil Trump is. The same people that were ok with 9% inflation, and rising inflation year after year. You gave Biden 4 years to prove his plan was a disaster, guess you need to give Trump a little time. I'm guessing until the mid terms.

THey stopped social security for some people and the left is upset and called DOGE liars.

DOGE"s reply,  These 12 are over 150 years old.

The left is still upset cause "you said you won't stop SS payments".

It is human nature for people to try to use other's words in their favor, but the problem is they don't have much of a case, when you are defending NOT auditing the government. The same people that were ok with sending BILLIONS to Ukraine, even after Zelensky said their is no record of where the money goes, and he would not submit to any audit, but are complaining that the war didn't end on day 1 of the Trump presidency. We can assumer billions in saving just because we are not sending any more to Ukraine.

what "brass policy"?  you can't collect your own brass?

You can collect your own brass. Once it makes it to the bucket, it's theirs. I'm all for them selling brass, other than I reload my brass 5 to 10 times, then i dump it in the bucket. In the past some of my brass already had the "Glock smile" I would be Leary of the brass there.

General Discussion / Re: Lost a Customer Forever
« on: May 03, 2025, 07:46:36 PM »
This has been very disappointing for me - A week ago I spent about $837.00 at the J. Hara Store in Kaimuki ...

Part of the purchase was a $160.00 OTF knife which I paid the full price.  I did ask - Who I thought was the Owner - Or Boss - I missed the Gun Show - Can you give me a better deal?  He said no ... OK

So, the next week - That OTF knife that I purchased went On Sale for $90.00.  I came back to the store and asked:  Hey, do you have price protection?  I spent $837.00 last week - And now the OTF knife that I purchased is $70.00 less from last week.  I then got some weird runaround - And I think, who was the boss went around the corner - And then a younger employee told me - Sorry, we can't give you refund for the $70.00 difference.

Pretty much most every store that I know of offers some kind of price protection for 30 days.  BTW, I've also purchased a good amount of merchandise in the past from J. Hara - At least $1,000.00 here and there.

Anyway - Not a good feeling - And bad business IMHO.  I will never do business with this store again.  Maybe I shouldn't feel this way - But in this day and age - That kind of Pettiness, just doesn't seem right ...

You have every right to feel the way you do, and choose not to do business with them again. That being said, I'm guessing you bought the knife from them because it was the best price you could find for it. May I suggest writing a respectful email to the  owner explaining you are a regular customer, and would appreciate if he could see it your way. Who knows, he may give you $70 in store credit.

Political Discussion / Re: punishment doesn't stop crime
« on: February 16, 2025, 07:19:31 PM »
I think this statement strengthens the need for citizen self defense..or maybe our State loves criminals..

https://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/2025/02/08/new-report-shows-concepts-new-occc-prison-system-reforms/

Oahu Community Correctional Center was built in 1916, when the focus of jail was incarceration.

The concepts for a new facility to replace it lean heavily on something it can’t do as much -- rehabilitation.

What have we learned from a hundred years of punishment? It hasn’t stopped crime,” said Kat Brady, coordinator of the Community Alliance on Prisons.

OCCC is the state’s largest jail with an original design capacity of 628 beds and an operational capacity of 950 beds. It has rehabilitation programs, but it’s also overcrowded and deteriorating.

As the state prepares to build a massive new jail in Halawa at the current animal quarantine station, leaders contracted the University of Hawaii Community Design Center to come up with ideas to help prepare inmates to re-enter the community.

“Ninety-eight percent of them exit prison, and has we have to do something to freshen things up, make these individuals into much better citizens,” said state Sen. Glenn Wakai, the vice chair of the senate’s Public Safety and Military Affairs Committee.

U.H. students spent two years getting input from the community, officials, cultural practitioners and even some inmates. The resulting design concepts are radically different from the current jail, with a focus on self-improvement and larger areas for wellness.

“Most of it was outdoors,” said Brady. “It was cultural spaces, it was gardens, it was lots of greenery -- you know, it was things that we don’t have in our facilities.”

“We’re going to have all these little modules next to it as people go through the various mental health services, drug rehab services -- so it’s not going to be granddaddy’s OCCC,” said Wakai.

The design also creates spaces for staff and corrections officers, including a gym, a courtyard and a dining room.

The big hurdle, of course, is the cost -- upwards of $1 billion.

I'll need to disagree with the title of his article. Punishment does lower crime, incarceration doesn't lower crime. I and many others  believe there needs to be a fundamental restructuring of our incarceration system. The conditions, in some cases provide a better and more secure standard of living then does the criminals choices have outside our jail system.

General Discussion / Re: when is it enough?!
« on: January 05, 2025, 07:13:44 PM »
I was being facetious paralleling the anti gun strategy of suing gun manufacturers. In the case of illegal fireworks in Hawaii it is proven year-after-year that laws simply do not work. Legislators on their high horses think they can legislate the people but when they realize they can't they'll resort to more extreme ways of controlling the population as we shall see in 2025.

https://www.khon2.com/top-stories/cultural-tradition-or-deadly-risk-hawaii-grapples-with-illegal-fireworks-after-tragic-blast/

Wakai expects numerous bills to be introduced in the upcoming legislative session to address the illegal fireworks issue, but said pursuing civil penalties versus criminal might be more effective.

“So maybe that’ll be the consequence. You do that out of your house, we’re going to seize your house,” said Wakai. “I think if there’s consequences for bad behavior, you’re going to see a diminishing of interest in fireworks.”

And there appears to be agreement that laws without enforcement are meaningless and need to change.

Although I wholeheartedly agree that laws with no enforcement don't work, our legislatures will be hellbent on creating new laws. As far as being facetious, I don't believe you need to be. If the ones that want to control us, can 't prevent us from having what we want, they have no other choice than to make sure we can't get what we want. IE: eliminate the product.  My point was wifh fireworks, as well as firearms, the people with either needs to be responsible, educated on the hazards, and understand the risk, and risk mitigation. Simply put, KNOW WHAT THE F&^k YOU ARE DEALING WITH!!  So many people only see the pretty colors and not realize that the power in it is the same and sometimes more than dynamite. If more people realize that they may treat is as dynamite and show it more respect. Not have it in a cardboard box, on the driveway while they are throwing sparks into the air. Wishful thinking I'm sure, but I can imagine better results than saying again" it's illegal" ,

Ok, so by your definition, whoever wins, even by just 1 vote, has a mandate? That's fine, I am just saying the significance of having 1.5% more votes should not be made to be bigger than it really is. On top of that, I wouldn't interpret this as inherently being pro-Trump because many of those voters could also just be anti-Harris. We can call it a red wave, I don't really care. Thats just a phrase to hype the story up. In the end it doesn't matter, the winner gets the gold metal, I just don't think the win is that significant when it is by a small margin.

Although I do understand your position on the mandate, I have to admit I feel differently, on a few things. The mandate, we are not talking about an election where everything is equal and one candidate got a few more votes. It was shown the media was SEVERLY biased. Trump was made out to be the worse human being in history, and Harris was made out to be the shining savior on the hill. she was also funded by someone , the fictional deep state maybe, so much so she amassed a war chest of over a BILLION dollars in a few short weeks. The debate was also very once sided. Even with all that , the voters, in the end, rejected the lifestyle they were told would be their new normal, and voted the person who would bring back the lifestyle they previously lost. It was not just a few votes. As was pointed out the electoral college was 58% to 42%. A blowout. The popular vote swing was not the 1.5% the republicans won by. It was more like 10%(sorry i don't have exact numbers) the difference of what the democrats usually win by, to what they lost by. That is a mandate. As far as Trump becoming president only for himself or his billionaire friends, he is better off without being president. Now as far as him playing loose with the laws, I may agree. I'd need to look at more facts, and not propaganda given by the same institutions that support the fictional deep state. Moving on to the deep state, government agencies have been weaponized against, American citizens, and political opponents in an effort remain, or to amass power. It was done under Obama, when he used the IRS to go after churches, revoking tax exempt status, while granting the exempt status to any liberal cause. Biden used the FBI, to cover his family's indiscretions, the CIA to go after citizens, and the DOJ to go after political opponents.  All that and it is not limited to just presidents, or people in office. It extends down through our courts, our current representatives, and even former office holders. To me that is the existence of a "deep state".

they should go after the manufacturers of the fireworks in China
I have to disagree with this. Fireworks are legal in many places. The manufacturer should not be held responsible for the customer's using their product unsafely. That will lead to mass transit only as cars are used irresponsibly.  That being said, people need to realize that they are "playing " with explosives. They acquire enough to equal the explosive power of cases of dynamite, then treat it like a single firecracker. If a professional fireworks display that uses less than  half of what people acquire here, there are required to have explosive experts, secure containment, fire mitigation, and safety protocols in place. Here, we replace all that with alcohol. The youtube videos of new years here, shows there is obviously no enforcement, either on the day of celebration, or in the policing of importing explosives, probably due to corruption. But we all remember the disaster when the bunker of confiscated fireworks killed someone. As much as we need more enforcement, more emphasis needs to be put on the fires, destruction, and the loss of life, in a way that emphasizes, the irresponsible, and dangerous way theyexplosives were handled.  Highlight how explosives are safely handled and precautions taken to prevent an incident like this. Chronical the lives lost, hurt, and forever changed by the reckless behavior of the people, and  how many people are doing the same thing, but being "luckier" than others.

Are you fearful of what Trump has told you he will do? Are you fearful he will terminate the Constitution as he promised?

Dan Coats a lifelong Republican and the Director of National Intelligence under Trump believes that Trump is a Russian asset and being blackmailed by Putin. Now Elon Musk has been meeting with Putin to discuss foreign policy if Trump wins. These are facts.

Check his resume: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dan_Coats

and yet he had the Russian checks made out to the Bidens.
