Yes, I made sure that only used the word rifle and not firearm. It's great that he made a mistake, but that does me no good since he's the guy that I have to submit the paperwork to. He told me that she would have to transfer the firearm to me, which is a load of crap, she's the legal owner.

I don't know where you got that information.  The age requirement in Hawaii for owning long guns is 18.     :wtf:    It's 21 for handguns.

From the guy at HPD Firearms registration. >:(

So my 20 year old daughter has been living on the mainland for the last 2 years. She legally bought herself a rifle while living in the Freedom loving state of Az. Now she has decided she wants to come back to Hawaii. I called the Honolulu PD firearms unit o find out how she was supposed to go about it because a person has to be 21 to get a permit to acquire a firearm in this state. The guy on the phone tells me she won't be able to register the firearm she already owns, because she's not 21. Hawaii may have a star on the flag, but I'm becoming convinced that the state is not a part of the United States!   :wtf:

It is not about guns. It never was. It is all bout finding the real cause of the increase of these events.
Check this out.

Now why is it that they continue on this path to destroy rights?  They even got us gun owners debating on what new regulation is 'acceptable'

"Shall not be infringed"  im sticking by that...

Anything more is reliqueshing your freedom.  A lawful gun owner is not a criminal!

Amen!

I just got off the phone with Sen. Ihara's office, the secretary who answered the phone explained that this was not written by the Senator but submitted by request from one of his constituents......She went on to explain that the Senator's policy is that when a bill is requested and written by a constituent that he submits them no matter his position on the issue, that's what the "by request" stamped next to the signature means.

Maybe it's time to write a bill that goes the other way and have the Senator submit that by request... :geekdanc:

Reality: The US has the most firearms per capita

Reality: We have among the highest rates of gun violence among the 1st world nations and worse than several 3rd world nations.

Reality: Anti-gunners use this as their premise that reducing the availability of any guns for any reason will contribute to reducing gun violence.

Reality: Countries that have drastically reduced civilian access to firearms have a marked drop in gun related violence

Reality: We either address this effectively or it will continue being the basis of incremental gun control legislation that doesn't actually make us any safer.

Here is some reality. The U.S. 28th in gun homicide rates. The U.S. not in the top 10 for violent crime rates...

I figured it would help to have some national attention. I sent a copy of the bill to Emily Miller. She responded and said she would do some investigating.

Dear Senator Espero & Representative Cabanilla,

I am writing to urge you to vote against S.B. No 219. This bill punishes the law abiding citizens of Hawaii. They have done nothing against society, yet this bill would require them to surrender personal property because of a perception. The citizens of Hawaii that wish to own firearms already go through one of the most onerous processes in the country. I urge you not to make a decision based on feelings and guesses, but on fact. As a member of the Hawaii State government you have access to data that would take the average citizen months to compile. How many of the firearms listed in this bill were used in the commission of a crime? How many of those guns were legally owned?  This bill will not reduce the occurrences of gun related crimes in this state. It will not make anyone safer. It will only further burden the law abiding citizens of the State of Hawaii. That is not in keeping with the Second Amendment of the United States nor the Section 17 of the Hawaii State Constitution.

I would like to suggest that a bill be created to institute harsher punishment for those who would use a firearm in the commission of a crime; a law similar to Florida’s 10-20-Life Law. The law's name comes from three main mandatory sentences: 1) producing a firearm during the commission of certain felonies mandates at least a 10-year prison sentence; 2) firing one mandates at least a 20-year prison sentence; and 3) shooting someone mandates a minimum sentence of 25 years regardless of whether a victim is killed or simply injured. The maximum penalty is a life sentence. Laws that impose stiffer penalties will keep those inclined to commit crime out of society and act as a deterrent to those who might commit a crime.

It’s time that we stop punishing our law abiding citizens for the crimes that are committed by criminals. I strongly urge you to not vote for this bill or any other bill that would further erode the rights of the people of Hawaii.

Sincerely

Thomas D. Hopkins

General Discussion / Re: If there's a second term.

Your right we need the Senate and to maintain the House, but Judge appointments, DOJ appointments, white letters, and executive orders coupled with Obama's willingness to trample the Constitution means that he needs to go. Maybe if we get control of congress we can slow that down, but the current group of clowns have yet to do anything to slow him down. In my mind all three conditions need to be met.

Agree about Mitt Romney since he is a Mormon and Mormons don't want others that are outside their religion to owns guns. So he will probably gonna pass  a gunban under the guise of public safety.

Hahahaha, you must be a Mormon.

(Here comes the religion wars)

Maybe. ;-)

But Utah, Arizona, Wyoming, and Idaho are some of the 2a friendliest states in the Union, all with a high percentage of Mormons. His statements don't reflect reality.

my friend bought a ruger 10/22 charger down here, registered it and fired it for a couple months. then the police roll up to his house and confiscate it because it got added to the assault pistol list. no grandfathered in nothing, just straight up confiscation. because he followed hawaii state laws and procedures he got screwed!

It fell off the boat while I was fishing... ;)

why is it that 2a can get close to 3000 views about who is the grumpiest gunshop owner
but we cant unite to get "Our"  range fixed
before "they " take it away

Probably not the best way to influence those on the board. These are the people that have been doing the e-mails, petitions, letters and the like about the condition of the range.

The best way to help, be active in all of the above, join HDF and/or HRA and be active in them.

The Brady Bunch is asking everyone to light a candle to end violence. At http://www.weerdworld.com/2011/light-a-candle-to-stop-violence/ they came up with this idea.

Legal and Activism / City Council - Kokohead Shooting Range on the Agenda
« on: January 08, 2012, 08:28:53 AM »
From Councilman Tom Berg,

Our Parks Committee agenda link- we will discuss the Kokohead gun/public shooting range- there is a proposal to charge end users a fee, there are maintenance issues, shortened hours of operations etc....I am against charging a fee and this is the first step where folks who shoot also need to voice their opinion against the fee concept.

I do use airsoft to teach the kids proper firearm handling techniques. The orange tips are still intact and I have instructed the kids that if they have them in their hands and cops show up that they are supposed to drop them immediately and keep their hands visible. This is because we are usually in my front yard with them and I damn sure don't want an incident.

A thought about the orange tip; what happens when the bad guys start painting the tips of real guns orange? Relying on colors to identify a real threat is probably not the best solution.
