Two days ago so likely you found them already but I buy from Longs or City Mill.   Just in case anyone is seeking this information in the future.

Ebay is another place for better prices and in bulk but be careful the seller is disclosing the expiration date of the batteries they are selling.

Had an interview with KITV 4 this morning and the reporter said someone from C&C told her they were planning to open the range next month, at least the shooting bay portion.  This was the first I've heard of anything.  Can anyone verify or did anyone hear the same?

If this were true I would expect the work to have started already to cleanup and refurbish the berm.   Has anyone checked lately if they started working.

Thank for the info  :shaka:

Still sounds like they draggin' their ass
Wtf takes so long???

Typical in Hawaii in my opinion so I don’t read anything into it.  At least they didn’t say it’s permanently closed.

updates?

Parks and Rec Instagram had an update

Quote
The Koko Head Shooting Complex is scheduled to remain closed through February 2023.
Following consultations with the firearm range consultant, a timeline of physical improvements is being developed in order to safely reopen the facility.
The specifics of this timeline will be announced once those dates are confirmed.
Currently, the Honolulu Department of Parks and Recreation is working on internal and external signage for the facility while updating administrative policies governing the complex's operation, including additional training for complex staff.
Mahalo to the firearms community for their continued patience and understanding while we work to make these necessary fixes to this popular facility.

I don't want cop protection either.  Just a number like 911 where I can call for dead criminal disposal service.

That's great, LOL   Adding DCDS to speed dial.

I think they’re looking at an NRA B-27 full-size silhouette with “qualification” scoring (see attached photo).  X, 10, 9, and 8 rings are 5 points, 7 ring is 4 points, outside the 7 ring but on black is 3 points.

So 2 to the chest, 1 to the head only gets you 13 points  ;D

Does anyone know how the points are calculated?   I assume that 125 possible points with 25 rounds means 5 points possible per round but are partial points possible?

Some people opted to pick up the hard copy instead of email copy. Or maybe OP got it before they started emailing them out.

I am replying late because I didn't notice your comment.  I was aware that OP only had a physical copy that they lost.  I guess I wasn't clear in my comment but it was made simply to point out that if they had to do the process over again using the online would assure they don't lose it again. This way hey would have an electronic copy they could keep in their email, or place on a cloud drive or something like that.

I have had them print me out a copy when I didn't have one. No 2 week process or extra paperwork.

Of course this is the better option.

The MSN article says
Quote
“To prevent future mass school shootings, we need to begin to focus on the cultural and social drivers of these types of events, such as the romanticization of guns and gun violence, rather than on individual predictors,” said Girgis.

I don't know where they got that quote from but it is NOT in the actual Journal article.
=============
Girgiis is one of the authors of the actual article.
===========
In summary, our data suggest several important differences between
mass murders involving academic settings and mass murders
in general: (1) psychotic symptoms, and psychiatric symptoms more
broadly, are present in a minority of mass school murderers but are
more common in such cases than among mass murderers in general
[1]; (2) perpetrators of shootings in academic settings, in particular,
take their own lives almost half the time, a higher rate than seen
than among mass murderers in general
===================

Interesting that you have access to the actual research paper which is behind a pay wall.
Regardless, going back to the original intent of this post, the author of the article is clearly trying to persuade the casual reader that mass shooters are NOT mental cases.
Your own quote indicates suicide in half the cases.
That sounds pretty mental to me.
Today is national common-sense day.

Why would I lie about having access to the article ?  I have access because I work at UH.  I can send you a copy if you are interested.   I realize Girgiis is one of the authors but the journal article never says anything like the quote.  They might have interviewed him but they don't say that so it implies that was the conclusion of the journal article which it was NOT.

When you say "Your own quote indicates suicide in half the cases....." I feel like you think I was defending the article or the Journal entry.  I was not.  I was just pointing out the the MSN reporter misrepresented the journal article.   I personally feel that saying someone that commits mass murder and then commits suicide is NOT mentally disturbed is complete hogwash.   You have to be a considerably off your rocker to do either of those two things.  Sane people don't commit mass murder and suicide is at the very least a sign of depression unless the individual is sick, painful or near death in which case it's somewhat different.

yeah I saw that, but their conundrum is that if they claim that movies, tv, games are the problem, then to fix it would involve an infringement on 1A rights.
Those academic scholars would NEVER agree to that!

The actual article says absolutely nothing about gun violence being related to movies, tv, games or the romanticization of gun violence.

I have access to the full article and it actually states the following.
Quote
In summary, our data suggest several important differences between
mass murders involving academic settings and mass murders
in general: (1) psychotic symptoms, and psychiatric symptoms more
broadly, are present in a minority of mass school murderers but are
more common in such cases than among mass murderers in general
[1]; (2) perpetrators of shootings in academic settings, in particular,
take their own lives almost half the time, a higher rate than seen
than among mass murderers in general [1];and (3) semi-and/
or fully automatic weapons are more frequently used by mass shooters in
academic settings than by mass shooters in general. Taken together,
these data suggest that mass shooters in academic settings may
not be trying to evade capture but may view their attack as a final
act driven by a variety of motives.

And this is the actual point of the article.  It makes absolutely no claims about the romanticization of guns and gun violence.  Rather it suggests that their analysis of the data could be using to help law enforcement when engaging an active shooter.

Quote
These findings may have important implications for policymakers and influence law enforcement responses to active shooter incidents involving school, college, and university settings.

I thought last year or maybe the year before they shut down the range for a while so they can "rake out" all the lead from the berms.

Or am I imagining it happened.  Could've swear they shut it down a couple of weeks to do that.  I mean yeah, the berms accumulate lead debris again but what are the chances?  Like winning MegaBucks.

If the neighbors that are complaining of potential lead poisoning wanted to prove their case they could just get tested.  It's just an opportunity to shut down the range because they didn't do their due diligence when they purchased their home to know the range was there.   When I was looking at homes in the areas I recognized the sound of gun fire and asked my real estate agent.  I said that sounds like gun fire, the replied, no that's just fireworks.   I followed the sound and found the range.   Sucks that the agent lied to me I am sure others fell for their lies.

The RSOs are exposed because they have no means to wash their hands before they eat, touch their face, rub their eyes, etc.  The bathrooms are far away and inconvenient.    They need to install some plumbing so there can be cleaning facilities at each RSO station.  I don't think the lead is in the air.

the city said it was a ricochet problem

knudsen is claiming lead problem

Having talked to the RSOs both stories are true.   They had a ricochet break a truck window.  Apparently a high power round hit a slug and caused that slug to fly off and break a car window.  When they switched to 22cal only I talked to one RSO that said that sort of thing happens all the time and the slug wouldn't really harm you, he then walked around and picked up a smashed slug lying on the ground near by and showed it to me saying here is an example.

I had another RSO tell me that one of them were found to have high lead and was reassigned to work at hanauma bay.

So the two stories seem legit.  The timing seems strange but might be coincidence.   I am trying to stay optimistic.

It was the lead/lead story on the 10pm news.
Knudsen is implying that since some range officers have elevated lead levels, then the range should be shut down.
The city won't (prohibited!!) confirm the range officer story since that would be a HIPAA violation.
--
HIPAA Security Rule. The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) is a federal law that required the creation of national standards to protect sensitive patient health information from being disclosed without the patient’s consent or knowledge
--
If Knudsen continues to dig into this can of worms, it could cause trouble for every shooting range and open himself up for a medical privacy lawsuit.
I heard that someone was investigating the Pu'uloa pistol range because it is built right on the beach and testing showed high lead levels in the sand.
Other places come to mind like Schofield and the police indoor range in Waipahu....and just about every shooting range in the world.

I am just hoping this part of the article is true.

He did send a statement on behalf of the Director of the Department of Parks and Recreation, Laura Thielen:

“The City’s Department of Parks and Recreation is working to immediately improve safety at the Koko Head Shooting Complex by adding a thick layer of clean dirt to the existing berms, encapsulating the existing berm and providing a greater protective layer that will help prevent any inert material kick-back. In the longer term, the City plans to undertake capital improvement projects that will not only improve the user experience, but improve – above and beyond what is required for daily operational maintenance and cleaning by the EPA – the safety conditions at the shooting range. We are being overly cautious, in the interest of public safety, and we appreciate the patience of the public as we work to implement these improvements.”

I talked to a few of the RSOs before the range closed and they actually mentioned that a few RSOs were found to have high lead levels and one mentioned that one of them was now working at hanauma bay.  Honestly it makes sense they would get exposure to lead because they have no cleaning facilities other than the bathroom which is a long walk away.   So the RSOs have no means to wash their hands regularly.  You see them eating all the time and they leave food out in the open were it can also get lead exposure.   They need to have a place inside to eat, wash hands, etc

A feline aficionado is continuing attempts to further his agenda.  Wind and rain is spreading lead into the ocean more then is being thrown into the ocean and lost when line breaks??

https://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/2022/10/26/closure-oahus-only-public-shooting-range-draws-questions-about-lead-hazards/
The most encouraging part of the article seems to be the last statement.  It might be standard BS but I am hopeful that it is not.  Losing our only public range would affect a lot of businesses and hurt the economy further.  My last trip to the gun shop was empty which I have never seen before.

Where did he get the test details?  I can't seem to find them anywhere on the website.  It mentions you must submit scores from "FIREARMS PROFICIENCY TEST " but never describes the test anywhere on the site that I can find.

UPDATE:  I did find the test for Maui and it seems much easier than what this video demonstrates.   https://www.mauicounty.gov/DocumentCenter/View/137616/CONCEALED-WEAPON-PROFICIENCY-COURSE

on my HK's I like the DA/SA trigger.  I like the manual safety, decocker.  but to each his own.  either way they are quality pistols for sure!
I also like having a safety and decocker but the trigger pull is just so sweet on the LEM I decided to try it.   I have a S&W 639 and a S&W 3914 which would be my CCW if that ever happens, they both have safety and decock when safety is applied.  I am more used to that arrangement.  The 45C is mostly for the range unless I become more comfortable with it.
In 44magnum I have a few options:  Ruger Super Blackhawk, Super Blackhawk Hunter, Redhawk, Vaquero, S&W 629, Colt Anaconda.  you could say that I love the 44 magnum!   :shaka:
That's one hell of a nice revolver collection!  I have a Ruger Single Six which has 22lr and 22mag cylinders you can swap.  It's crazy accurate, one of my best.  I just acquired a Ruger SP101 357mag but didn't get much range time before they closed.
I'll report what see over the weekend
Great  :shaka:

I'm no HK45 expert.  I just went overboard and got the 45 and 45C recently.  but I do like them a lot
I haven't shot the HKP30L with the compensator yet, or without the compensator, I haven't shot it at all yet
I've been reloading some hot 44 ammo for when they do re-open.  and reloading some not so hot 44 ammo too, cowboy loads

I was planning on doing my own recon mission at kokohead later this week

I shot a HK45 during my pistol certification course and loved it so I purchased a HK45C LEM.   I love the LEM trigger, such a constant light pull.
When I bought the 45C the gun shop rep showed me a HK USC they just got in and I decided to pull the trigger on that also.

What do you shoot that takes the 44 ammo?

Do report back if you recon over the weekend.

Did the same with a Taurus TX22 competition and a red dot. At least I got it to the range 1 day before they closed.

Nice gun!   I don't have any red dot pistols, I have all old school guns.  Only my rifles have red dot because I never was into rifles in the past and the rifles I bought had picatinny rails begging for red dots.
I would like to convert my HK45C to red dot but not until things open up again.   I had two visits to the range with both of my new pistols but that's really not enough.

Let's hope they open again soon!

Yeah.  I wasn't planning on spending that much, but EuroOptic ran a special and got it "close".  Or closer.

Hopefully the range opens soon.  You can check it out one range day.  I took a chance and just bought it, but so far not regretting it.

I bought a Tippmann M4-22 which is a 22LR AR15 when they announced 22LR only.   It arrived 2 days ago LOL.   So I too hope the range re-opens so I can sight it in and have some fun with it.

I had not been into shooting for almost 10 years and I decided to get back into it.  Bought a HK45C and a Ruger SP101 to get back into the sport only to have them shut things down.   Honestly I think I jinxed it, LOL.
