Submitted testimony.  Enough poorly written and ineffective legislation already.

Hm... I don't think this fits "their" narrative for gun control anymore... remember how quickly Chris Dorner disappeared from the news?   Does anyone still remember who that was?

I think the apparent apathy witnessed for the current round of support against the anti-gun bills this legislative session is not the only reason.  Could it be that some within our community might have not have a problem with the stipulations entailed on those bills or, at the very least, were impartial enough that it was not a real concern? .....Kuleana

Even though HRA's emails attempted to explain, I would guess a lot of people don't understand the concept of unintended consequences or aren't aware / can't believe how devious some people are with their use of language.

I'm fortunate to have Sam Slom as my State Senator.  That said, testimony submitted.  Again.

From the article:  "He doesn’t blame San Francisco voters for approving the $15 minimum wage, but he doesn’t think they had all the information needed to make a good decision."

He's being too kind - yes they are partially to blame for enabling their lawmakers to buy voters.  The media is also to blame for being agenda pushers instead of informers.

I remembered trying to look up FAA regs and seeing the 1000 ft rule.  Thanks for the tip on getting the aircraft's registration number.

I live about a half mile as the crow flies from the range.  If I'm outside I can hear the shots, but they are pretty soft - if one of my neighbors is weedwacking I won't hear any of the shots.  If I'm inside and the kids are watching TV I don't notice any noise from the range.  When my kids were still infants, it wasn't the noise from the range that annoyed me - it was the Blue Hawaii helicopter tours going overhead every day, multiple times each day.  Those helicopters are loud and annoying.  We've lived here for almost 11 years now; although it wasn't a priority for us, being a few minutes drive from the range is great for me.

My wife and I were both referred to Dr. Jenkins by our eye doctor.  I had laser PRK (due to thin corneas) while she had LASIK.  I was very near-sighted in both eyes and had bad astigmatism in my left - my contact lens prescriptions were in the -6.25 to -6.5 diopter range (I forget what the two other numbers were).  Pre-operation everything was a blur until I could put on my contacts.  Post op (2011) I'm still seeing about 20/20 through both eyes according to yearly checkups with my eye doctor (Fong Vision).  Same positive experience for my wife.  Reading glasses are almost inevitable since they are due to your eye's lenses being unable to focus as well as when you were younger, while nearsightedness and astigmatism are due to the shape of your eyeball.

Dr. Jenkins seems to still be in business; do a search and you'll find her website - Jenkins Eye Care.

"However, it is still comforting to know that China has not attacked anyone at least in the last 100 years.  "

Invasion of Tibet (1950)
Sino-Indian War (1962)
Sino-Vietnamese War (1979)

I got those three just from memory.  China would not be stupid enough to openly invade another country right now - I don't think they'd even do that with Taiwan (for now).  They would "invade" the way the Russians are trying to invade Eastern Europe - by out-populating the locals through emigration and out-voting/out-influencing them...  it was already mentioned in this thread they're buying property here.

As for the different sovereignty groups - think of all the war and strife in southern Africa.  As soon as they got rid of colonial rule under the Europeans, they turned on each other with equivalent violence in the name of power.  In fact, look anywhere where tribes, family and/or religion are more highly regarded than country.

Legal and Activism / Re: Post-election Comments??
« on: November 07, 2014, 07:32:57 AM »
Did you see Takai's comments on the sweeping by the GOP of the Senate? He states that "now there is no blame game for the republicans to play", loosely quoted. Huh?? Does he not get it at all? This guy is out of touch. Obamass claims a poor voter turnout by Dems for the short fall. HUH??? Does he not get it at all? This guy, too, it out of touch. People are fed up with the direction our government has gone; this election clearly makes that point.

Now only if Hawaii was not a mindless vote the same name, same party and not for the real issues type of state. I was really feeling that it was going to be different here too. Next time maybe.

Either he doesn't get it, or like the White House Press Secretary just refuses to admit it in public.  Remember the Iraqi Information Minister?  All evidence to the contrary, never admit that you're losing, and spin it as much as possible in your favor.  When "the end justifies the means" is your mantra, why even pay attention to anything people like that say?

Although I wanted Djou to win and voted to that effect, I didn't expect him to win here (although it was closer than I thought it would be).  I'm planning to ignore the winner (just like the previous winner) and hope the rest of Congress does the same to the rest of the delegates from Hawaii.

I'm on my phone so I can't cut and paste a link, but google "tommy waters medical tort reform" and there should be a hawaii news now story by leland kim from 2008.  Waters was the House Judiciary Chair that year and according to the story did not bring the proposed bill up for discussion intentionally.

Thank you very much edster.  I had a feeling there was no one to pick from for the city council seat, especially with the one who helped kill medical tort reform years ago among the candidates (Tommy Waters).  If he really wants to send his kids to Iolani maybe he should start off by not sending so much junk mail.  It's like I get a campaign flyer from him every other day now.

Legal and Activism / Re: Guam Passes "Shall Issue" CCW by 13-2 Vote
« on: May 11, 2014, 10:34:12 PM »
Interesting.  I've been there numerous times for work, and noticed all the "gun clubs" in Tumon that were geared for Japanese tourists like what we have in Waikiki, but I also noticed a small shop (Moylan's) along the main road through their downtown.  There was also a sign for an outdoor range nearer to the Navy base.  I thought they would lean left just like people do here, and when I was there during campaign season I saw many of their politicians using Obama-like symbols and slogans on their billboards.  However, Guam is much smaller than Hawaii (it's only as long as Oahu is wide), and much of the island is still more rural.  Maybe they haven't lost as much of their common sense?  Maybe they still remember having actually been forcefully occupied by the Japanese during World War 2 and being nearly helpless (their forces tried, but were quickly overwhelmed) to stop the invaders?

Aren't Hanabusa and Schatz fighting for the dem. spot?  Let's see which group will win this; the racists/sexists (Asian female trumps all - I remember someone here mentioned they spoke to a neighbor or something who mentioned this is how they voted), or the slightly-less than communist statists.
