Not sure how things are now, but I've had them mailed to be via UPS when Cabela's carried them at reasonable prices some ten years back, and even bought a Pietta 1858 Remmy and Ruger Old Army off Craigslist around that time too. No need to register at HPD, and the guy in front of me who brought one in to register was told he didn't need to. Again, not sure how things are now, this is not legal advice...!

I opposed them all, and with SB2757, I stated that it would be unfair for me to face Class A felony charges if I were arrested while in possession of my lawfully-owned firearm... while protesting against Trump's storm troopers! Figured a different angle might work... lol.

Legal and Activism / CCW: same gun, diff calibers?
« on: September 12, 2025, 01:36:06 PM »
Aloha all, I tried to search but could not find an answer. I have a SIG P250, and slides in 9mm, .40, and .45. I know lots of guys who run .40 slides on their 9mm Glocks, so I figured someone might know. My questions are:

1- If I have "9mm" on the license but HPD catches me with .40 or .45 equipped, would it be an issue despite the SN being the same?

2- Is it possible to qualify with all three slides and therefore have all three calibers listed on the license?

General Discussion / Re: Minnesota Gun Laws- Do Gun Law's Really work?
« on: September 09, 2025, 12:56:21 PM »
The gun laws worked as intended by our politicians: allow a crazy person to commit a heinous act without an armed citizen to interfere, and capitalize on the fear to push more ineffective laws through. Soon we'll beike the UK, where a girl pulling a hatchet on a criminal to protect herself will be the one jailed.

Main difference is bullet type, weight and velocity.  If the bullet is 158grains, then it's a 38...

I've loaded 160 gr .38 bullets over 2.6 grains of Tite Group to make some pretty quiet loads for my AR9, but those were only really good under 50 yards. I imagine it would make the firearms tech in SIS scratch her head trying to figure out the platform if she found the slug at a scene!

Anyone ditching hemostatic gauze to go with plain gauze?  My quick clots are expiring and I got four to replace.  Ive heard the same as the video, regular gauze does 90% of the job at 10% of the price.

This is pretty much true as proper placement and pressure are key (in regards to wound packing with rolled gauze). I would advocate getting the important stuff like CATs and chest seals from reputable sources and sourcing your gauze rolls and pads from whoever can give you a good price. Although triangular dressings are not as "high speed" as CATs, you can still make effective tourniquets with them as well as utilize them for a ton of other things, so there's still a place for them in your kit. Also, don't forget space blankets, because clotting factors drop when body temp goes down.

Health, Fitness, and First Aid / Re: Free NARCAN
« on: April 29, 2024, 10:08:09 PM »
Two things to bear in mind when it comes to administering Narcan intra-nasally (up the nose): you cannot titrate the dose, and it can kick in pretty quick, depending on the patient. We were shown a training video which featured bodycam footage on the mainland of cops and fire responding to an OD on a bus. Narcan was administered, guy woke up agitated, refused to be searched and questioned, and eventually pulled a gun and fired wildly. One firefighter was struck & killed.

Point is this: Narcan given by IV can be given in small amounts at a time, and we can wake the patient up just enough so they'll breathe on their own. With intra-nasal Narcan, they're getting everything at once. When they wake up, they might not be expecting you to be hovering over them, and may not react well to it. If you want to carry Narcan and administer it on your own, that's up to you, and our Good Samaritan law should cover you-- just be careful. Also, it's not just druggies and bums OD'ing-- keep in mind there are kupuna out there with dementia who may have accidentally taken too much of their pain medication. Not everyone is fortunate enough to have a caretaker managing their meds.

You're correct. It doesn't exclude attached accessories. Which means when you hand you kid an AR, there's at bunch of felonies on there for them. Since you cannot transfer possession.

Same for all those airsoft and paintball gun shops... even Nerf guns take pic rail attachments these days.

I tried this email address and got a failure notice stating that it had an "improper hop count." Might have to email each individually after copying the initial email text...

Submitted as well. I commented that I'm a firefighter and mentioned that even when we call HPD by radio to assist with violent patients or traffic control, they're still a few minutes away. I also mentioned that both the moms at the park who talk to my wife and the fellow firefighters and paramedics I work with-- some of whom were anti-gun-- are now asking us how to get firearms before the bill becomes law and noticing that bad people are just being turned loose by our "justice" system. I mentioned that the only good thing about this bill will be the number voters they're turning to our side.

sorry, that wise CRACK just sneaked out.

You're right, that usually cost extra when you're getting a massage... but if you pay taxes, you may as well get it!

It's nearly impossible for a functional society to willingly adopt Marxism...

Not just Marxism, any power-hungry politician. They spent decades making us dependent on them and now they know that enough people will beg for them to rule over us if things get chaotic enough. I remember the news interviewing people after the Boston Marathon bombing when the Tsarnaev brothers were still on the run, and one guy straight up said he'd be fine letting the police cavity-search him if it meant finding the terrorists... really, how does that even make sense?! The politicians must view us as stupid and ripe for the picking as their new subservient class...

That sounds a lot like this story...

Thanks for that, I was pretty surprised when my friend said that-- but it was believable, considering that happened in that case about the Big Island security guard getting beaten.

There was  stabbing in Waipahu a year or so back, woman came home and caught her guy in bed with another chick, both were asleep. She grabs a knife and stabs them both, but they luckily had no life-threatening injuries. I asked a cop friend about it yesterday and he said the prosecutor didn't even go after her, they just dropped it. Can anyone verify? Justice system is broken, a good reason to add to my testimony on the next AWB bill.

General Discussion / Re: no ban on e bikes?
« on: February 12, 2024, 02:23:32 PM »
eBikes play into their whole "green energy" plan, so no, it won't be banned. We see these kids in Waipahu, zipping around in their Super 73 eBikes without shoes or helmets, hopping into the road and on the sidewalk without regard to cars or pedestrians. We went to a 13yo kid a year ago who was operating one-- without shoes or helmet-- and swerved into oncoming traffic, hitting a Tacoma head-on. Dead, head trauma. The parents showed up and they wanted to beat up the driver of the Tacoma, like it was his fault that their son got into an accident. Supposedly a law has been passed requiring operators to be 18+ and use a helmet, but I have not seen that taken seriously yet. No opposition from the "even if it saves one child" crowd though...

General Discussion / Re: SB2845-sneak attack
« on: February 12, 2024, 02:02:24 PM »
Just read the first few lines of this... it's laughable. They say we have some of the strictest gun laws and the 3rd lowest firearm death rate in the nation, then say that's why we need a minimum age requirement on ammunition sales and list states that have one but most of them are states with worse gun crime than us. Man, make it make sense! Also, regarding the pro 2A guy who is supposed to be on the committee to represent us, any bets it'll be the same clown who runs certain gun safety classes?

*Edit:* Submitted my testimony on this one too. This is getting ridiculous, especially considering what the founding fathers would've done by now to these people.

==========
Thanks ambu, it was good seeing you again.
I hope you can submit testimony on SB2845 too. This bill is targeting the next generation.
If we lose the next gen, we will lose the 2A.

Thanks for bringing that one to my attention, will submit testimony there too.

Submitted mine today, another FF from my station sent his in as well. I explained that I work 24 hr shifts and cannot rely on HPD to be our private security, also cited the justice system not seeming interested in keeping bad people locked up. If this goes through, I expect them to target airsoft, airguns, and 3d printers next.

I keep a 9mm Terrier that will penetrate anything.

Gives a whole new meaning to "dumping energy" into the target!

And yet I see people happily shelling out $12,000 for a 30 year old 4-cylinder microvan from Japan! I'd love an old Japanese fire truck, but man, not at those prices. Maybe as things get worse, they'll get cheaper!
