FAQs / Re: Getting and registering a gun in Hawaii
« on: January 15, 2017, 03:40:03 PM »
So looking to sell some of my handguns and I have in the past but I honestly forgotten how.

As a seller, I provide the buyer with the necessary info on the firearm, along with my contact info, and they apply for the permit? Wait the 14 days, and once they acquire the permit, we both head down to the main HPD office and complete the transfer?

yeah, tell all your friends that are not 2ahawaii members
we need to show interest before they will commit
i would bet if we asked all the HPD/HFD and others we know, we could get a lot of interest
but without a solid amount of interest, this thing will not even get past this stage
mahalos to jonjon for even getting it this far

Did and two of my friends (I believe one just signed up for 2A) are much interested. I know one of them is definitely willing to put down $$ with me.
Will do more on spreading the word.

How big can these classes go? I mean with one, or even two instructors, I would think there wouldn't be much "personal" interaction, as much as a mass-drill. It'd be my first time taking a course like this so perhaps my perceptions are misguided.

Honestly? I love KGS and SEC the most. I've also been to OGC, YG, X-R, and HF. All of the other stores mostly have positive experiences, just a few  :wtf: times here and there.

Firearms and Accessories / Trying to understand scope parallax
« on: July 13, 2013, 11:26:02 PM »
So I did a search and anything relating to "parallax" all fell under the classifieds.

I am very much still a beginner and always on the hunt for more knowledge like you all. This time, I'm trying to understand scope parallax, more specifically - ap/ao/pa.

I'm not doing any hunting, just strict plinking at the range, and am looking for a decent scope. This thread isn't about what scope to get so let's forego that and get to my question:

In looking at specs and reviews, it would seem that having a scope with adjustable parallax is a good thing. However, when I see scopes with stats like "parallax setting: 10 yards to infinity"... what does that mean? Does it mean that it has no adjustability? Which brings me to my second question, wouldn't you just always want something to be parallax free from the closest range on? Or does adjustability have correlation to the "blurred" out effect when you magnify?

I know this is quite the subject that have books written about them so I appreciate any analogical help to ease me into understanding this topic  :D

So with the issue of long lines at HPD, what is the common practice for privately selling long arms? Do you wait there with the other party, or simply do the transaction there, and let the buyer finish the process?

For handguns, I take payment and give a bill of sale with all the required info (make, model, serial, & current registraion #) so the buyer can start the process. Once the permit to acquire is approved, I verify all the info, amend the bill of sale with the G#, then have the buyer sign and date. At that point, I keep the bill of sale and he gets the handgun. Pretty simple.

Same goes for long guns without the waiting... just a bill of sale (including G#) and ID verification.

Sorry for being a noob at this, but what exactly is a bill of sale? Just a piece of paper w/a signature? And what is G#? TIA  :shaka:

So basically:

1) Buyer must have pistol permit - which to acquire needs all of the information about the gun from the seller
2) After 1), present the pistol to HPD for verification
3) Seller can check for proper transfer

Sounds about right?

How do private sales done? I only know usually both parties meet at HPD. But is the transfer instant? Or is there things to prepare prior to meeting at HPD?

Sorry if this topic has been addressed already. Feel free to link me if it has.

Preparedness and Survival / Re: What vehicle?

I like duchi's choice. Reinforce that front grill with a slab of concrete or something

As far as diesel or not, I'm sure that there will be lots of cars/stations to loot gas from once people start turning. I'd just want a truck that probably has 16-17" tires as there are probably a decent surplus at all of the lube shops to grab a dozen or so pairs for whenever/if-ever they pop.

I was thinking along the lines of a truck/SUV also for transportation.

Being in Hawaii, a boat has crossed my mind but I have no nautical know-how to operate one, much less travel island to island haha.

Tom_G, enough space for food? Or would you surface every so often to hunt  8)

Preparedness and Survival / What vehicle?
« on: March 13, 2012, 12:56:26 PM »
I was watching the latest "The Talking Dead" episode and a question was brought up, "What vehicle would you have in a zombie apocalypse?"

And we all know, a zombie apocalypse or not, it's prepping with a different purpose.

So what vehicle would you guys man-up if you knew... a week in advance the end is near? Or even now?

Realistic choice and dream choice :P
