Preparedness and Survival / Re: Black Soldier Fly Protapods
« on: July 29, 2022, 10:10:51 PM »
Ya shippings nuts now. I priced out similarly sized plastic bins at Grainger and Chemtainer Hawaii which turned out being the same or more expensive, plus I'd need to modify to get it to work. I could make my own, but factoring in time, materials, and headaches this makes more sense in my situation.

Ordering two 4' Homestead ProtaPod grub composters since my homemade bins cant keep up. They can fit two more bins on the same shipment for nominally more. Each bin is going to come out to $600 landed on Oahu. Shipping is nuts right now and that's the cheapest I could find to get it from North Carolina to Oahu. Let me know by the end of the week if you'd like to hop onto the order.

Political Discussion / Re: The COVID Cult
« on: March 16, 2021, 07:18:24 AM »

There are studies shown that surface transmission is low.  The mask and by proxy the eye shield are the most important prevention measures.

Every generation has its morons.  Some people on this forum are proof:rofl:

Lol, you still don't get it. All masks are not created equal. The article you thought you were cleverly rebutting specifically names surgical/cloth masks.

Why do doctors wear PPE?  If it doesn't help?  How do you explain medical staff with PPE not getting covid?

Your reading comprehension needs a lot of work....

From the article....

In fact, it is not unreasonable at this time to conclude that surgical and cloth masks, used as they currently are, have absolutely no impact on controlling the transmission of Covid-19 virus, and current evidence implies that face masks can be actually harmful. All this to say and as so comprehensively documented by Dr. Roger W. Koops in a recent American Institute of Economic Research (AIER) publication, there is no clear scientific evidence that masks (surgical or cloth) work to mitigate risk to the wearer or to those coming into contact with the wearer, as they are currently worn in everyday life and specifically as we refer to Covid-19.

We also agree with the words of Klompas in the NEJM publication: “What is clear, however, is that universal masking alone is not a panacea. A mask will not protect providers caring for a patient with active Covid-19 if it’s not accompanied by meticulous hand hygiene, eye protection, gloves, and a gown. A mask alone will not prevent health care workers with early Covid-19 from contaminating their hands and spreading the virus to patients and colleagues. Focusing on universal masking alone may, paradoxically, lead to more transmission of Covid-19 if it diverts attention from implementing more fundamental infection-control measures.”

Why does my generation have to be full of morons...  :(

General Discussion / Re: Vehicles for hunting

From what it sounds like you wont be needing it for any major off roading so a stock 4wd nissan/toyota will get you there and back. It will boil down to how much you want to spend and your preference. I also recommend buying as close to stock as possible, most people have no clue what they're doing functionally in terms of mods to their trucks. From your description the mods I would do would be good tires and a winch like bass said. I've never needed a winch, but better to have it and not need it as they say.

If you plan on doing any hunting in the helemano area 4wd is a must. Its fine when its dry, but a little rain and   you'll have no traction. Went up helemano once in a 2wd tundra and got caught in some rain on the way out. Wont do it again. You'll also want something with decent ground clearance, the ruts can get fairly deep. Picked up an older 4wd pathfinder which has never gotten stuck up there. Went the nissan route because they tend to not have the crazy hawaii toyota tax.

Have her take the dogs to the vet where she is to get them ready for airport release. They need a rabies vaccine and a rabies TITER test. Not sure if you have enough time though since it can take anywhere from 3-6 months depending on the results of the TITER test. If she doesn't get that they will have to go to quarantine. This way you can bring them home with you the day they arrive. Www.hdoa.hawaii.gov/ai/aqs/aqs-info

Nope, the H series doesn't ship hazmat, so it's straight forward. I think shipping ended up being around $30

I checked around last year and couldn't find anyone that would sell just the Cerakote, ended up buying directly from Cerakote.

An angle grinder with a cut off wheel will do the trick if you have one.

General Discussion / Re: I want to make an AR pistol with a welded magazine
« on: September 10, 2016, 09:49:12 PM »
the auto body trade uses structural adhesives for repairs on plastic and fiberglass. This isn't like your jb weld, it's adhesives designed for structural plastic repair. If applied correctly it would not be removable without destroying the lower or magazine. Would bonding a polymer magazine with a polymer lower with this structural adhesive be acceptable in the eyes of HPD?

Firearms and Accessories / Re: Cerakote for sale on island?
« on: July 07, 2016, 08:21:02 AM »
Went through the same thing not too long ago. Ended up ordering directly from Cerakote. They do ship their H-Series or oven cure coats to Hawaii since it can travel by air, but not their other lines.

Was there Jan 31, very nice facilities. Sporting clays was fun, but the rain/wind and 50 degree weather shortened our day considerably...

Pet Depot in Ewa Beach usually has a few zoa's and anemones, coral fish in Aiea sometimes has some as well, but that's about all you'll find.
