Reminder that the 1st Sunday of the month is 22LR Silhouette Match.

The small bore match info below is an edited copy from an old post by Teichi.

The Silhouette Range opens at 0800 if you want to get in some practice before the match. Cost is only $5 and it covers all day range fees, match fee and lunch (must compete to eat). When you register at the booth, declare that you will shoot the match and your fees are waived until match registration. All shooters and spectators are required to wear eye and hearing protection.

A total of 40 rounds must be fired. Range commands are electronic. The course of fire is in 4 stages. Each stage of fire is 10 shots per yard line, fired in two strings of five rounds, with 2 minutes to fire each string of 5.

Targets: 10 chickens at 25 yards, 10 pigs at 50 yards, 10 turkeys at 75 yards, and 10 rams at 100 yards. Swinging targets are set up for sighting in and practice.

All rifle shooting is shot from the unsupported standing position. Pistol shooting is done from the Creedmoor position or unsupported prone. Rifles are classified by “light” (under 8 lbs) and “heavy” (8 lbs and over) with or without optics. Match rifles are not really required. Any safe and reliable .22 that can hold 4” groups at 100 yards may be used. Shooters may enter more than one category, but must pay an additional $5 per gun.

Competitors are expected to help set up the targets unless you exhibit a serious medical condition. Lunch is provided, but potluck side dishes and snacks are welcome.

Who's coming?

The Silhouette range is perfect for windy days like this. Those bolts and small plates at 100 meters are a fun challenge. The big hanging plates are a great tool to check what's actually happening with your bullet too, if you're having trouble hitting the small stuff on the rails.

To get into the rabbit hole deeper, a tuner would  tighten groups and lessen vertical stringing of groups.

If you'll allow a voice to counter going deeper... Odds are good that you'll find a few things your CZ shoots great (MOA or slightly better). That's good enough to reliably knock bolts off a rail at 100 meters. Good enough to hit steel at 200 meters. With some luck your CZ will shoot that well with the "cheap" stuff like CCI SV. It might even shoot that well with MiniMags or Aguila SV. Spend your money on ammo volume. You'll shoot a lot more at 10-15 cpr than you will at 30+.

All due respect to esk808. A 22 rifle that puts up 0.2" - 0.3" groups is a true wonder and a worthy pursuit.

My new to me CZ 457 seems to like CCI SV (5 shots at 50 yards today, not too windy at Koko Head)
I have shot fewer than 50 rounds through this rifle but I think I'll stick with CCI SV for now.

What a treat. With some luck you'll find a few other similar cost ammo options your rifle shoots this well. CCI SV is plenty tight to go 200m (Big Bore lanes on Silhouette side) most days. This past Sunday was an exception. I'd call it a swirling mess: 3mil right to 1mil left of target minute to minute.

My 2 cents from much nearer the surface of the rabbit hole...

I'm having a lot of fun with my Savage Mark II TR & Vortex Diamondback Tactical. It shoots a bunch of ammo well enough for
 -- bolts at 100 meters and plates at 150 & 200 meters: Aguila SE SV, CCI SV, CCI MiniMags, CCI AR, Federal Gold Medal Target, S&B Club
 -- Silhouette Matches: Federal Champion and Blazer (both 40gr lead HV)

Being able to feed it such a wide variety of relatively cheap stuff is gold. If I had to feed it Lapua and Eley at 40+ cpr I wouldn't be shooting a fraction as much. I've put over 6,000 rounds through it since May 2021.

The next goal on my agenda is to get some 2.2" and 4.4" plates to hang at 200 meters. Currently the smallest thing I have to hang is a 6" circle.

That has been my 2 cents.

Need some advice. I’d like to keep using my Caldwell bipod (for swivel studs) for my Savage Mark II TR, but attaching/detaching is a giant PITA.

Thoughts on mounting a Swiss ARCA rail to the wood forend? An 8” rail sticking out 2” from the end of the stock would be awesome. Does anyone have experience with this?

A Picatinny rail is another option, better than the studs but not as handy as the ARCA.

Recommendations for the rail and bipod adapter?
