lol. my kids used to go to Keonepoko.  No school until Nov 10th.  the signal is the way out, until the lava crosses that road.  we are planning on sticking it out as long as possible (or bearable).  crazy stuff for sure!

Been quiet because the lava had "stalled."  As of today, activity has picked up a little.  Everything in holding pattern.  Kid's school still open but that might change now that there is a small increase in activity.  Still have plenty of time to plan exit but getting kind of dicey now. Tons of trucks and containers on the move.  Roads and power lines being put in just in case.  Also noticed a traffic signal (wtf?  that is why I move out here) near one of the new alternate roads.  Not used to that! My house post and pier so can be moved but no where to move it.  For now, we continue slowly packing and moving.  Hopefully in a few weeks have a better idea what will be happening.  Good thing I have insurance!

what u talking about what if they mistook someone else for the suspect . this was no mistake. this was definently a criminal as he tried to kill the cops. how can they get the wrong person. " Atiz revved the engine and tried to run down the officers.  They had to jump out of the way." " A third officer was injured jumping out of the way of the car." btw,  "he was arrested for attempted murder, assault, resisting arrest, and numerous traffic violations."

"What if"  "What if"  "What if"  "What if"  "What if"  "What if"

Oh ok you innocent if you try to run down officers and then fight the officers causing injury to all three of them. nobody here said anything about advocating street justice, just shoot in self defense when their life was in extreme danger which was the car incident.

Oh so now you want ur so called due process when you stated that judicial system needs to be focused on and will just allow them back on the streets. make up ur mind. you want criminals on or off the streets. you sticking up for criminal rights?

Bahahaha.  This guy reminds me of that other ho guy.  Could this be TROLLHO?

Wow.  Just looking at the guy's photo I would say that he looks like someone that should not have firearms.  Now the he has been released, I hope they took all of his guns and not just the ones he was caught with.  I further hope that if he attempts to aquire any new firearms that the system does it's job to see that he is denied.  While the current laws couldn't have prevented this, they hopefully can prevent any future incidents with this guy.

The company already took steps to legally separate from him. But still a PR nightmare.

Firearms and Accessories / Ruger 96/44

I know a guy that just picked up a Ruger 96 in .44 magnum.  Looks like an interesting find.  Anyone have or had one? Just curious what you thought of it.  Lever action with 5 shot detachable magazine.  Looks like a 10/22 almost except beefier.  Hadn't heard of this rifle before.

It is disgusting to see these two losers trying to bribe and coerce this primary.  Typical democrat tactic, offer "free" stuff to "help" the people, when in the bigger picture, it does not amount to much....

My question is/was, "where were you before the storm????"   I thought so.  I didn't notice Hanabusa this morning as there were tons of signs and people at the stop sign before the school where the poll was.  Tons of Hanabusa signs but didn't notice if she was actually there.  After I voted, I was heading to work and there he was, Schatz himself on the side of the road in the rain!

As a note, the school where the polling was taking place is kind of in between the two precincts.  So residents of 04/01 come from one direction and residents from 04/02 come form the opposite direction.  There is only one road and the school is on that road.  So when you approach it, you only see one candidate's supporters depending on which direction you are coming from.

Preparedness and Survival / Re: Disaster Close Calls - Lessons Learned
« on: August 12, 2014, 08:40:52 AM »
Something else I learned.  How frieakin handy would it be to have the Superferry?  We could already have water, ice, generators, HELCO people and equipment here.  Could have been here days ago in fact.  All of those tree huggers that killed the ferry can come stay at my house all month with no power and then see if they might think a little different.  Lucky for me I am not on rainwater catchment so I have water.  Some are not so lucky.  Whatever geniuses killed the superferry were extremely selfish and short sighted.   :shaka:

I'll keep an eye out for you. There were several on Craigslist on Wednesday, but my guess is that they were gone that day. There may be some coming up for sale on there too. A lot of people bought them earlier in the week, but now want to get their money back. Kind of like how it's going with them after buying cases of water and trying to take them back to the store.

Here's a few places you can check on Saturday:

Steve's Honda
Home Depot
White Cap
Garden Exchange
Del's
Lowe's (since Kona had no real outages, they may still have some)

Good luck, I'll keep in touch.      :shaka:

Made the rounds in Hilo but there is not a one anywhere.  Too bad.  I see lots of tree cutters out the past few days but no signs of the big HELCO trucks that replace poles.  Plus, I would imagine they don't have the number of poles they need anyway and will have to wait for some to come in from Oahu.  Unfortunately for me, I live way down at the end of the line, near the ocean.  So I am thinking we are going to be the last ones to see electricity.  Planning for 2-3 weeks of cold showers and living out of an icebox (providing we are able to get ice as it is in very short supply).  Could be a lot worse off though.  You should see the lines of people waiting for the water, tarps and ice.  We should be fine without any of those things so we are staying away from the handouts so the the people that really need them might get them.  I still consider us extremely lucky based on some of the things I have seen in the neighborhood.  Lucky for us, we are prepared and we made it through with very little damage.  Lots of trees fell away from our house instead of towards.

I am learning the usefulness of a generator.  Since my power is out, charging the cell phone in the car is a PITA!  Would be nice to have a generator to also run the fridge.  Can't eat that stuff fast enough!  Will look for ice tomorrow but might be too late for some items.  Everything else is covered but a generator would make things really great about now!

Off Topic / Re: What's the weather like... really?

I think the tv crews went to the wrong locations last night. Maybe it was too dangerous for them to go into the Puna area and see the ocean coming out of some driveways and onto the main road in Kapoho. Then be stuck in there after trees fell to block what little escape roads they have.

I live in Puna and finally made it out late today.  Road was blocked with fallen trees.  Have to go back in a while but based on the # of downed power poles, I will not have power for a few weeks.  Bummer, but at least work has power and internet.  Saw lots of damaged homes and the power lines are all over the roads.  Actually saw some HELCO people out there today too.  No equipment yet, only clipboards.  That was one mean storm.  No thunder or lightning but plenty rain and the wind was so loud you could hear it coming.  The ocean too was pounding!  I feel really lucky after seeing some of the damage today.  I have a small dent in my roof from a tree that fell in my yard and that is it.

Yep, since it is now open source information, Blood Alcohol .206, well over twice the legal limit.  He was currently on charges with an open case for DUI.  He was in contempt of court as he was a no show for a Court mandated psych evaluation with the prior DUI case still pending.  This info was nothing but a small blurb with the media.
This just shows how the system has failed everyone.  The dead drunk driver, the officer who had to make this decision, the potential victims in the vicinity at the time, and the taxpayers who will foot the bill for all the ensuing investigations and other nonsensical lawsuits that may arise from this.  If the legal system is working properly, this type of stuff would likely be minimized.
